  1. The potential is not the actual and as such cannot be granted the same rights. Existence is identity. Something exists as something. An object which exists cannot have two identities. Something cannot be A and B. A is A. I have the potential rights of a corpse; should I be granted them? A 1 month old fetus has the potential to be an adult, should it be granted the rights of one? Coal has the potential to be a diamond on a ring; would you propose with it? This is why I disagree.
  2. I'm not sure I follow this point -could you calrify for me please?
  3. This is one of my favourites, took on a trip to Spain. Its obviously taken through the window, which accounts for some of the grain and distortion, but nonetheless makes me think of achievement.
  4. My personal favourite was Hank Rearden. He appears to start off relatively unarmed against people such as his family and the thugs who steal from him. He tries to appease them, keeping his diquiet to hidden, (esp. concerning his wife). But as the book progresses, we see him arm himself intellectually and see his "rebellion". Besides him, Francisco for his sheer, youthful love of life.
  5. I presume he is referring to crimes such as assault, murder etc and the rates of them in countries such as England, Sweeden when compared to the US
  6. Atlas Shrugged is the most important book I have ever read. It snapped my whole world into focus. It wasn't an instant thing, but a gradual, growing clarity as I came to understand more and more. That was 2 years ago and I still go back and read Galt's speech for inspiration.
  7. I find this is a typical tactic of people critical of Objectivism. Arbitrary situations plucked out of thin air, without context or any relationship with reality. By trying to present an 'Objectivist' position to their 'dilemma' you have already succumbed to the trap; you have granted it the validity it does not deserve.
  8. Greetings everyone. I found this board via the Capitalism Forum. I live in the UK and run a web design business. I have been a student of Objectivism ever since I was introduced to Miss Rand through the author Terry Goodkind. Thank you for setting up this forum!
