  1. SPOILER WARNING: Mr. & Mrs. Smith*********** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Jane Smith: There's this huge space between us, and it just keeps filling up with everything that we *don't* say to each other. What's that called? Marriage Counselor: Marriage. Marriage Counselor: How often do you have sex? Jane Smith: I don't understand the question. [about the new curtains Jane bought] Jane Smith: If you don't like them we can take them back. John Smith: All right, I don't like them. Jane Smith: [pause] You'll get used to them. Eddie: This broad is not your wife, she's the enemy. John Smith: She tried to kill me. Eddie: They all try to kill you. Slowly, painfully, cripplingly, and then wham. They hurt you. How you going to handle it? John Smith: [grabs assault rifle] I'm going to borrow this. Eddie: I like where your head's at, man. Jane Smith: Any last words? John Smith: The new curtains are hideous. I personally LOVED this movie. Probably because I've been through a bad marriage, so I know how accurate this movie gets it. Everything from the power struggle, the space filling up, and no sex. This movie makes light of it all and it's funny cause it's true! I was laughing hard throughout the entire thing.
  2. Sorry I never replied to this...must have missed it and I don't post as often. Anyhow, glad you liked the scene...I'm going to go rent the Player's Club this weekend to watch it. I think when you have the right principles in life you tend to see things in movies others might miss. I listened to a lot of rap songs when I was younger and they were not all about killing or having money and ho's. Some rappers were just trying to make in the music business and get out of the "hood". One of my favorites is Tupac's "Dear Mama". Anyhow, I know I"m off the subject so...I'd like to add to favorite scenes from the movie "Fight Club" the scene when they are in the airplane seats and Brad Pitt (Tyler) is going to get up and pass by Edward Norton (Jack). TYLER Now a question of etiquette: As I pass, do I give you the ass or the crotch? Tyler moves to the aisle, his ass toward Jack, walks away... In his way there's an ATTENDANT. He moves, his "crotch" toward the ATTENDANT'S butt. Tyler goes to the curtain dividing First Class, slaps the curtain aside and sits in an empty seat. Jack watches. I thought this was hillarious as everyone at some point or another has had to deal with that.
  3. I chose an amature's need to know more. I have actually been reading books about other philosophers. Nothing too deep just "beginner's guide to philosophy" and things like that. Like the others I find it deepening my understanding of Objectivism and when I explain my views to others (who don't know a thing about philosophy) I'm much better at it than say...a year ago when I only knew of Objectivism.
  4. I have two hamsters, a male brown one called Hammie (my brother named him) and a female albino called Nina. why? she just looked like a Nina to me.
  5. This is Isabel. I live in Los Angeles County ...more specifically the South Bay in Torrance. Currently attending UCLA. How is everyone else?
  6. If an Objectivist was to become a millionaire (and/or politician) but had to play by society/country's current laws/regulations...would that make them a traitor? I began to think about this questions reading the thread about People You Admire...and how there weren't any Objectivist millionaires (that we know of). Some who were mentioned were shot down because of having to kowtow to laws or politicians or countries. When I was first introduced to Objectivism I thought of Alan Greenspan as the most successful Objectivist, but was quickly corrected on that topic. This isn't about him anyhow. I know that an Objectivist does not compromise but then how else can one be successful in this country? What if one wants to go into politics and has to make compromises along the way? Would that mean that one was no longer an Objectivist? Are there any Objectivist politicians? Finally, what is the other option? Does one just avoid a career in politics altogether because there is no way to change the current system? Does one stop voting because the political system is all screwed up? Is one supposed to shrug? I'm very interested in hearing everyone's input!
  7. I'm rooting for the Angels as well...however if they keep playing like they did today against the White Sox... =( I heard on an interview today that its John Wooden's favorite baseball team because they don't have any individual stars but play as a team. p.s. on a side note...ucla football team is playing much better this year. they actually beat berkeley and i'm hoping they beat usc...i've already bought my ticket!
  8. I just recently saw this movie again for the second time and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know lots here dislike Angelina for her altruism and Pitt for his choice of characters. However, I thought this is one of the best movies either of them has ever made. The dialogue between the two characters in the first half of the movie was hillarious! I loved the way they spoke to the marriage counselor about their troubled marriage. Having been through a troubled marriaged myself I can tell you they were right on about people growing apart. The power struggle between the two is quite evident in little things like picking curtains for their living room. I loved it when they finally got all their mental frustrations out in a physical fight- it was absolutely brilliant! Something that you obviously wouldn't do in real life with your spouse but is great for a movie. The latter half is more action oriented ...with gun fighting, etc. but its supposed to show how the two get to know each other and learn to work together. To sum up...I am adding this to my list of favorite movies.
  9. I'd like to request a Los Angeles/Orange County area forum.
  10. I was reading a sports magazine the other day and ran across a REALLy good photo of David Beckham. Wasn't able to find that particular photo on the web but these will do. Don't know why but I've always loved guys who look good in shorts and can kick a ball...can't wait till the World Cup next year! Plus, my husband kinda looks like Beckham.
  11. Ok...first girl to post a photo...hopefully I'll start a trend. This was a themed group picture...we all had to dress up and paint our faces...hence the cat face!

  13. He wore dark trousers and a dark blue windbreaker closed tight at hist throat, prolonging the lines of his long, slender figure. He wore a dark blue cap, and all that could be seen of him in the night were his hands, his face and a patch of gold-blond hair on his temple. That is the description of Ragnar given when Rearden meets him and at the time I read that I thought of Gavin Rossdale. I don't know many famous Nordic men, if you do and think you have one then by all means suggest someone. I was just giving my humble opinion. Here's some pics of Gavin where I think he looks pirate-like.
  14. How about Gavin Rossdale for Ragnar and Gwen Stefanie for Kay Ludlow. Don't know about the acting abilities for either but I thought both looked the parts.
  15. Nope, haven't heard from them at all. My next step will be to email their advertisers which seem to be Verizon and Yahoo/SBC.
  16. Key Largo is a great movie...and I agree with whoever said that the older movies are of a different caliber than today's movies. I'm wondering why no one has mentioned the movie most people know Bogart for....Casablanca. I thought he did a great job as broken-hearted Rick.
  17. Hugh Laurie is being nominated for an Emmy as best actor in a drama!! Woohooo!!! Hope he wins! http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticl...ISURE-EMMYS.xml
  18. Thanks for the advice David...I just emailed them. In my anger last night I did not even think about taking such a step. I was just so disturbed by it.
  19. Wow, I'm surprised (but pleased) by how many people are from California...what with so many calling it a Blue State. I would have thought there would be more from Texas.
  20. Welcome to the forum Tricky!!! I was just thinking the other day how there aren't that many posts about sports. I'm a soccer fan myself and am looking forward to the World Cup next year.
  21. Yeah, I'm not sympathetic to immigrants who abuse the welfare services. Perhaps a system of only granting amnesty to those who have shown they never received welfare and who've proven able to take care of themselves would be better. Most illegal immigrants I've heard of are too scared to go anywhere near any government office (welfare or otherwise) to even think of asking for handouts. They come here basically looking for work. I thought that idea Bush had of giving 3 year visas to immigrants to work and then go back to their country was a step in the right direction, however, I'm not familiar with all the details.
  22. I haven't seen it yet but it sounds promising. It's about a mathematician's daughter (Paltrow) who has to finish the proof that her brilliant father never finished because he began mentally deteriorating in his last days before dying. Anthony Hopkins plays the father. I know this is the movie adaptation of the play by the same name starring Danica McKellar. I'm interested to know what people who saw it thought about the movie. I'll probably end up going to see it myself as well.
  23. I just saw this report on the news about this video that is making its rounds on the internet. http://www.jokaroo.com/funnyvideos/mexicanworkers.html This kind of stuff just makes me sick. That racist bastard really deserves to get his ass kicked. He actually fools them into thinking he's going to give them a job but instead takes them to the INS. It is these kind of dumbass people that are ruining this country. They should be thankful for new immigrants...illegal or not who come here to work and make this country better.
  24. i got to level 4 quite fast...but now i'm going a bit slower. reminds me of those "gifted" tests i took in elementary school. except they used a wooden board with nails and rubber bands back then.
