There is a real world example of this question. It is here in Utah, just north of Salt Lake City. A private corporation created a private toll highway to service commuters through a busy corridor because the government had been completely ineffectual at solving the problem. It is the nicest, cleanest, PRETTIEST road I have EVER been on! They even have a website you can look at http://adamsavenueparkway.com/

Ultimately, when confronted with this sort of confrontation (isn't redundancy redundant?) I just refer to Galt's Speech when he says, "I do not grant the terms of reason to men who propose to deprive me of reason. I do not enter discussions with neighbors who think they can forbid me to think."

What to do with your tax refund check

This is actually exactly what I was planning on doing! I do have a question though to add - I have never invested before, but I am starting to turn into a Chicken Little about the state of the economy and the upcoming political elections. If I put all my money into gold, and there were a hypothetical collapse of the economy, would it still be possible to get my money out of the GLD stock if all goes to hell? The other thing I am considering is the Perth Mint program of gold ownership. Does anyone have any feedback? -
The problem is and always will be the 16th amendment. Until that gets repealed, we unfortunately are victims to the whims of whatever politicians get elected in this country.

I don't know how much I agree with that. Even Ayn Rand herself wrote some incredibly hilarious one-liners. Two of my favorite Ayn Rand lines (sorry if I don't quote them exactly) are: "Gordon L. Prescott looked very masculine [dressed up] as a grain elevator." "Some say, 'consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.' They got it from a small mind, Emerson." But I do recognize how Toohey in The Fountainhead kept annoyingly telling people that they must have a sense of humor. So I see where you must be getting that point. To answer your other questions, I grew up in Buffalo, NY. Moved to Salt Lake City 7 years ago. I first discovered Ayn Rand only recently this past fall. The first thing I read was The Virtue of Selfishness, then Atlas Shrugged, then Philosophy: Who Needs It, and then I just finished The Fountainhead.

Hmm... Well, I admit I hadn't considered Legos. HOWEVER, some of the things you list came about before Denmark became socialistic. I also agree with others here that even the concept of the "happiest nation" is just another nonsensical, collectivist concept.

I just joined this forum. I used to frequent the Ron Paul forums but I got sick of the lack of logic and rationality by a lot of his supporters haha. I found this video on YouTube the other day called "The Fountainhead in 5 Seconds" and had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at it. Enjoy!

Hi everyone! I just joined this forum. I thought this was interesting (and sad) http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/140/happiness I think the most interesting thing to point out is for all of Denmark's happiness, what have they produced, invented, or accomplished toward the advancement of mankind?
