  1. I am having my own philisophical crisis right now. I have no problems with my friends, most of them don't think about ethic, politics, etc. My family however, is adamentally christian and socialist. The problem is, I am not educated enough to really combat their attacks so I tend to lose arguements. I have only read Atlas Shrugged, Anthem, and The Fountainhead. Once I began reading the nonfiction, I'm sure my understanding will grow and I'll finally be able to defend my ideas well.
  2. I've always loved dystopians. This one looks very good.
  3. The to do list is a good idea. I'm going to try waking up everyday and writing a list of things I have to do. I'll also put limits on things to help resist procrastination. I'll be back with results.
  4. That certainly seems like a distinct possibility for some of the forgetfullness. I do daydream a lot. I'll defintely try it.
  5. I have had a terrible memory for my entire life. It frequently hurts me academically and socially. I seem to remember concepts well but as for specific things such as locations, I'm lost. Case in point, I had an assignment to give directions to my house in Spanish. I couldn't remember the five minute trip and had to mapquest it and translate that. Usually, I can barely remember what happened the day before, which becomes very frustrating. Fixing this problem could help me out a lot. I was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation and has solved it. I realize this may not be a solvable problem, if so, could any of you give some advice on how to deal with it?

  7. Has anyone had a dream that involved them actually realizing it was a dream? One time a dreamt I was in a mall of some sort and I suddenely realized I was dreaming. I decided the best thing to do was to begin shooting fire out of my hands (I was quite young). It actually worked for a few seconds, then I woke up.
  8. My dreams never make any sense. One time, I was swimming in a gigantic pool held up in the sky by four balloones. But their was a dragon swimming in it. As my family and I were swimming around near the edge, it ate my mother. Then I woke up. I was confused to say the least. In another, I was sleeping in an apartment in the inner city (I dont live in the city). A gigantic rat began stomping on all of the buildings. It was weird because I wasn't controlling myself, it was more like I was a third person, watching myself do things. I got out of bed, went outside, and bit the rat in the leg. Bleeding, it fell down and died. Again, I woke up very very confused.
  9. You're going to have to explain a little more. I don't see what you're trying to say.
  10. Thats hilarious! Tell me when the site gets started, I'll be the first to join.
  11. I'm lucky to have two objectivst friends and one learning to be one. My fmaily however, has no idea whats going on with me.
  12. I may be mistaken, but I believe the last two salmonella outbreaks before this one were traced back to organic foods, which are treated with natural fertilaizers and pesticides, which are far more dangerous than synthetic ones. Presumably, we wouldn't have to deal with something absurd as organic food. In a laissez faire society, farmers would be free to use the cheapest most effective forms of farming, using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
  13. The only forum I use is the Alter Bridge Band.net forums. Theres a very good community there, all centered around the great music of Alter Bridge. I argue there all the time. Right now there is a raging 72 page thread arguing over religion.
  14. " I can't stop thinking, and why would i want to?" lol nice.

  15. Hah, thats a weird coincidence. I'm also 15, and live in Maine.
  16. Mom is protestant, Dad is catholic. They are pretty good for christian parents. They never really forced me to believe with them but I did have to got to Church every once in a long while.
  17. I'm also 15. Kids my age don't care about reading, or learning in general, much less Objectivism. I know one O'ist, who I converted, and one atheist. Thats about all of the people I can find that are halfway smart.
  18. Sorry to tell you, but drinking Pepsi at all is very irrational when there is perfectly good Coke available.
  19. Why are so many people obsessed with getting things to look the same way they were years ago? I can look at a sugar refinery, a railroad, or whatever, and see a testament to humanity. They're far more impressive than an empty area of land. Why do so many want to take us back to the stone age?
  20. Ah, alright. I just found that site and decided to post it. I was excited for a moment too, I live in Maine so I could conceivably get to NH. Oh, well.
  21. What if one person has a monopoly on all roads in a given area. He charges extreme prices, middle class and lower class people cannot pay the price so cannot use the road. Only the upper class can. But becuase the pric eis so high, the owner gets money.
