    Is Greed Good?

Scrooge wasn't that bad was he? I mean, why did Bob Cratchett have children he can't pay for? And why do people pay a fortune for Scrooge's real estate when it is so shoddy?
  3. Check out the Quent Cordair gallery http://www.cordair.com/
  4. It is an act of heroism, not suicide. He wasn't willing to live as a slave.
  5. Haha! QED! Last time I used that was when in a mathematics exam, I had no idea what to do, so I wrote a load of nonsense and appended QED to the end.
  6. Thats true Ryan, but its also important not to give bad platforms any unearned credibility.
  7. Brian, please note that when Ayn Rand says living, she does not mean merely surviving. Cheryl was denied life and was not strong enough to snatch it back - so she chose to end her existence.
  8. EC, while your example is unusually detailed, I've had similar experiences (and so have most people) and I briefly gave some thought to it once. The best theory I could come up with is that we have so many strange or insignificant contemplations (especially when dreaming) that some of them are bound to occur, this surprises us but the rest of our contemplations are forgotten. Like when you think "I haven't heard song X in a long time" then it comes on the radio, and you are surprised because you were thinking about it a few days ago. You probably had similar thoughts about songs Y and Z, but nothing happens to remind you of them.
  9. That is actually explainable. It usually happens before you fall asleep, and is a nonsensical reflex left over - most likely from a pre-human that lived in trees.
  10. ...Is Obama serious? That is quite literally forcing the companies to give their products away for free. Obama is nothing more than a slave driver.
  11. Thank you, K-Mac The photo does it no justice. Although the wind has blown it to the side, which is a shame.
  12. Cropper Lyceum is a good example of one
  13. We are more than sure, we are certain. We are also certain that selfishness is moral, and any state that does not allow one to be selfish is a prison. You should probably read some Rand if you want to know how we know this.
  14. Oh really? --Ayn Rand Ayn Rand did give up when her doctor advised her to, and I would say that to smoke simply because you are addicted is a ludicrous waste of life. But if you enjoy the occasional cigarette, and don't mind running the risk of a slightly shorter life because of it (Though the risks of occasional 'casual' smoking are overblown by just about everyone) then by all means smoke. If it adds no value to your life, and you just do it because of some irrational chemical craving, then just who are you trying to fool?
  15. Don't forget, Amazon has a patent for a one-click order system! Every other webshop must use 2.
  16. Yes - psychologically, that is half of the cure.
  17. Interesting. Do you assert that, given enough volition, a man could change his sexual orientation? Much like aesthetics, do you hold that orientation is a response to core values?
  18. Do you have any scientific backing? Last I checked, most evidence suggests it is a mix of hormonal and psychological factors.
  19. No - no such right exists. If one cigarette company says it has 0.2mg/nicotine per cigarette and another doesn't specify, then fine, choose the one that suits you best. Or don't smoke at all. But if, for example, they said "Contains no nicotine" or "Has no adverse health effects" or something like that, then the product is unfit for the advertised purpose and that *is* fraud.
  20. Why should "Marriage" be anything other than a private affair? Dress up and make some promises, sign some contracts and change your names if you want - I don't see why the government needs to recognise it at all. Instead, why does it not just recognise relationships? So Man A can dress up fancy with his partner on a day, read some vows, eat some cake - and then register a sort of partnership with the state. Or, Man B can register a similar partnership with his best friend, or his son, or his gay lover. Just for the purposes of next-of-kin activities. Like, when you die without a will - or when you are nearly dead and they ask someone for permission to turn the life support off.
  21. Not sure why I'm frowning... probably the wind.
  22. I don't think I'd have laughed either. Its all true - but it isn't funny. Its like hearing a serious speech with a laughter track.
  23. I've just realised something... what on Earth will they do for Halley's concerto? They can hardly compose something to that standard.
  24. Thank you! How have I gone so long without hearing this music? It is brilliant.
