  1. I practically wrote the article, but I need to expand my thoughts to prove my points I am stating and also, put some pictures in. Could you give me any sources?
  2. Somebody from the people watching coughs in the Communist meeting then Stalin talks. Stalin asks: Who coughed? No answer. Stalin says: The first line, stand up. Soldiers, shoot them. Stalin asks again: who coughed? No answer. Stalin then says: soldiers, shoot the second line. Stalin asks again: who coughed? Silent voice with cries says: I coughed. Stalin answers: Oh, bless you, dear man, Stalin says.
  3. I am thinking about a medium sized article, because only about 1 percent of Lithuanians know what Capitalism and free market is, so promoting Reason and explaining Capitalism is neccesary.
  4. I would like to write a letter/article to my local newspaper concerning financial crisis and promoting Capitalism. But do I know enough to do that or could you list any references I may use or should read?
  5. Happy Birthday. I wish you long and productive years.
  6. Something funny to hear for an atheist. My country is so inadvanced it still uses paper blanks. Huh.
  7. In Lithuania's parliament(seimas) elections, many people showed their creativity as a kind of protest against money wasting made by the bureaucratic machine. Some of them even brought pens of different colors and wrote what they felt about it. Or, some of them just crossed out all the members in the list, while others wrote some other person, like Chuck Norris, for example. Those who abstain could do something like this.
  8. Thanks for reminding me. But the name of the forum thread is a bit tricky. Objectivists use reason to accept the Objectivism philosophy, they don't believe in anything. That's why Objectivism only works for atheists, because belief saves you from thinking.
  9. How do I know I am Objectivist? It is enough to pursue your goals in life while allowing others to do the same. What all the parts of Objectivism are? You just have to know those: Metaphysics and three aksioms(existence, identity, consciousness); Ethics(egoism as the moral ideal, not being driven by emotions); Politics(free economy, Capitalism); Aestethics(art is the way to show what you see/how you feel about something, etc, not for propaganda) A list of approved tenets? Where is one somewhere, Ayn Rand said it at the Interview with the Playboy magazine, if I remember well. It's only my opinion, as I am a bit green in Objectivism myself, it can be inaccurate.
  10. If one computer unit gets lost, nobody cares too much, but if a single neutron bomb gets lost, the whole country sees a serious threat. Note the difference i'm talking about.
  11. Do what Lithuanians do: below the candidates, write down 'Chuck Norris' or whatever and put a cross near it like voting for him. These things happen all the time here...
  12. It's in about first 10 pages
  13. Men, just like their opinions, aren't equal. Who is stupid enough not to know that?
  14. I see. But if one or several guns produced by a company gets missing, the Government can sue the company? I don't find this bit clear yet.
  15. Isn't that a kind of Governmental regulation? And what if they illegally sell it to other parties in order to make some more money?
  16. If the government of the state leaves only three functions to itself - courts, police and military, who should suport military and police with guns, tanks, fighter planes and ammunition? Should it be a private company or a public one? If the second, it isn't a laissez-faire capitalizm, if the first, the company might produce itself an army and seize control of the country. So which one should it be?
  17. It might happen after a few generations change in the country's history.
  18. In Lithuania, the tax from all purchases is 18%, except for medicine(3%) and books(5%). Not to mention 30% tax from your salary to the state, and 3% tax from your salary to your social insurance, so you will get 200$ a month to stay alive then you get too old or too weak to work. And, businessmen have another privilege - a yearly tax of property - that's 1% of the value you or your company's commercial property. Politicians, not Capitalism gets the blame, but 'The wave of Communism' is still near by providing every citizen the minimum standard of living. But hey, Lithuania's the 30th best country to make your business in! At least before they nationalize all of your property. If it is very good and expensive, they will do it twice "Mazeikiu Nafta" is a good example. And our life is pretty cool. Medium salary of 1000$ a month is pretty good for everyone, isn't it? Plus the 'letter money'* of course. START LOOKING FOR A JOB IN IRELAND! *'letter money' is illegal part of the payment, cash put in envelopes and given to people. We call in 'black money' or 'letter money'. Employers of most of the Lithuanian firms often do that.
  19. Remember, that some people think that the place they live in is their craddles and their graves, so of course they will try to change the place they live in.
  20. There are lots of carbon beneath our feet in the ground as we speak. The most of it was in our atmosphere millions or billions of years ago. But carbon dioxide didn't stopped the birth and evolution of life. So why should it do a thing like that?
  21. The thought just came to my head: Is using physical pain with the person's you are using it against permission is justifiable? In Objectivist society, would it be legal to cause pain if the person agrees with it? It is a bit of a mind-maze to me, because I know two things about Objectivist ethics: 1. Everything is legal if both parties involved agree on it; 2. Force can only be used by individual in self-defense or then performing sports like boxing and by government then someone's rights are violated. So what about the use of force in sex, etc.? P.S. I hope I hadn't made any mistakes in my post - correct me If I'm wrong.
