Free State Initiative
LiveFreeOrDie replied to clarus's topic in Activism for Reason, Rights, Reality
Actually living here myself, I know plenty of Free Staters who are neither nihilist nor (*chuckle*) satanist. In fact, we have a fair number of Objectivists, though they're not a majority. A discussion forum where about 40 people participate is not a very useful way to figure out the general beliefs of 10,000 FSP members. Actually coming to one of our events (the Liberty Forum or PorcFest) would be a much better way. -

Who's promoting that? -
Why do some 'outgrow' Objectivism with age?

People who say "good in theory, but not in practice..." are generally intellectually lazy people who can't or won't think through their beliefs and prefer to stumble through life with a hodge podge of whims, gut feelings and other people's opinions...most of which contradict each other in some way or another. Honestly, where "in practice" have you seen Objectivism in the first place? Not to mention, if it's a good theory, it will work in practice...otherwise it's a bad theory. -

Perhaps not everyone is as big of an activist as you are. A good reason to join the Free State Project. I sent it out. I kinda think the fed gov is a lost cause. I'm focusing on a more attainable goal (and receiving a lot of help!) -
Democracy and freedom are definitely two completely separate concepts. You can have either without the other.

I don't understand all the votes for Rome. Rome was mostly a very unfree and cruel country. Greece, in many of the city-states, was at least semi-free.

I love that photo. It is such a powerful display of the human spirit. An unarmed man versus a tank; no chance of winning, but he wouldn't give in. I've often wondered what happened to him. I assume he died in some Chinese dungeon.
