Those are all quite intense physical activities. It seems that your intense physical activities are also solo activities (and perhaps you meant to include them in that category). Are you involved in any team sports? Are you a member of a musical ensemble? John Link

I'm curious about your interests. Do they include vigorous physical activities such as swimming, bicycling, running, or dancing? John Link

Stepping out of character
John Link replied to dollardoctrinaire's topic in Questions about Objectivism
I think the healthiest place to do that would be on stage. John Link -
School Banning "Best Friends"
John Link replied to SapereAude's topic in Intellectuals and the Media
I'm heartened by the fact that almost all of the comments at The New York Times expressed dismay at the idea that friendships ought to be regulated and best friends discouraged. -

Assuming that duels in some form or other (in an appropriate location, with appropriate witnesses, etc.) ought to be legal, it seems to me that gang fights with lethal weapons also ought to be legal. Those of you who believe that duels ought to be legal, do you also believe that gang fights ought to be legal? John Link

The Paradox of Choice (Too much choice?)
John Link replied to D'kian's topic in Metaphysics and Epistemology
Ridiculous! With five questions there ought to be at least 32 choices. John Link -
Perhaps the disputants ought to settle their quarrel with a duel. If there is more than one disputant on each side of the issue then there could be a rumble, with chains and knives. John Link

The Paradox of Choice (Too much choice?)
John Link replied to D'kian's topic in Metaphysics and Epistemology
As long as Cherry Garcia is on the menu I don't care how many more choices there are! John Link -
I'm curious about the motivation for the discussion about duels. Is it entirely theoretical, or does someone have an interest in having a duel? John Link

Clive, are you still with us? If so, how are you doing? John Link

I'm particularly fond of Chopin's 24 Preludes, composed for solo piano, one in each key, each a exquisite miniature composition. I've arranged all 24 for five singers, guitar, bass, and drums (and violin, in the case of No. 16). You can hear samples of my recordings here: http://www.cdbaby.com/johnlinkproject

For those who missed it, here is the point of the original post: That's also the point of the book I cited above. John Link

Uncle Sam Wants Your Savings

I've sent a short message expressing my opposition. Thank you, Diana, for posting this information. John Link -
Impossible Romantic Scenario
John Link replied to BrandonMV's topic in Relationships, Love, Sex, Romance
Have I got this right? You're a man who wants to sleep only with men that have no interest in sleeping with men. I'm reminded of Woody Allen's statement that he wouldn't join any club that would have him as a member. John Link -
Do you have the authority to make this deal? John Link

Ayn Rand Predicts Reality Television
John Link replied to dianahsieh's topic in The Objectivism Meta-Blog Discussion
Really? Reality TV is much worse than, and quite distinct from, anything mentioned by Rand in the quote. I do not see the prediction you claim. John Link -

No, but that doesn't change the fact that the title is misleading. At least it misled me. Was anyone else surprised that no statement of Rand's concerning either Apple or GM was not in the article? If an author writes an article which he titles "Company X vs. Company Y: Mr. So-and-So knew the difference. Do you?" would you expect to read, in the article, what Mr. So-snd-so had to say about Company X and Company Y? Would you be surprised if the article contained no such information? Do you expect an article to give an accurate indication of what the article is about?

I assume that the title of an article will give me an idea of what the article is about. Usually, but not always, that is the case. Whenever I write I always choose a title that will give the reader an idea about what is to follow, and I expect other writers to do the same. They usually do. John Link
