  1. Which is why the south won the civil war. Because only about half or more of all supplementary Objectivist material is based around the history of ideas.
  2. I bought a second hand copy for less then half the price a while ago. I've read a few pages and it seems quite good. Haven't done any exercises yet though. keep putting it of.
  3. Personally I see photography more as selective documentation then recreation.
  4. "Oh wow I can really relate to this Ellsworth Toohey guy." ~That Dorm Mate
  5. I think going on a mission trip and handing out copies of Atheism the Case Against God would be hilarious but deceptive. Maybe you could scout the area ahead (always a good idea for factions) and mix business and pleasure by setting one up if you find a hole in the market.
  6. They'd have a field day if the next ticket is Rand Paul & Paul Ryan.
  7. A policy that advocates scarcity accomplished exactly that, with extra monetary scarcity to boost! Government, you've done it again!
  8. Socialized Gun Care? One of the rare wrong policies that could have prevented several dictatorships.
  9. Kickboxing? Though then there's the danger of going the way of the black knight.
  10. Tabula rasa a blank slate, I'm baffled how some take the blankness as an isolated primary and then state that anyone who advocates it denies the existence of slates.
  11. Good shot there Math Bot, on the general topic I can also recomend John Rogers Searle's "Machines Like Us" interview and his work "Is the Brain a Digital Computer?" . I haven't read all of his stuff but from what I did I think he's got a great and mostly compatible theory of mind.
  12. On the picture of the car I don't think anyone would care. The drawing, if you found it online you could probably find the owner here too and ask them. On the picture of the woman, people could mistake it as a quote, which could be very silly if she somehow happened to actually be a fascist.
  13. Here's my go at making it more legible. If you know what the negation of an assertion is, knowing that is so close to actually knowing the meaning of the assertion itself, that the difference between those two barley matters.
  14. My favorite book on the subject is "Atheism the case against God". The part it has on faith is my favorite, if faith is out of the window everything claimed to be supported by it tumbles down.
  15. Ninth Doctor, and everyone else. You can link to a specific time in a youtube video by adding #t=?m?s to the end of the address with the question marks replaced with the numbers you want for minutes before 'm' and for second before 's'. I know its not totally on topic, but while D.D is good at paraphrasing wiki examples of logical fallacies his straight man act isn't very entertaining.
  16. In haiku form: I like presents. Everyone should give me presents Bow before me.
  17. Lets hope that they're actually plotting to take over the world.
  18. What if you met Ellsworth Toohey in real life and he gave you a complement?
  19. I actually read quite a bit of Lovecraft, just before I had a mental breakdown.
  20. What has the future ever done for me? If you want a feeling of permanence, I sometimes remind myself that whatever I do at any moment will for always have been done that way.
  21. As far as I see it. With the law of the exuded middle: "LEM is right or LEM is not right". Without the law of the exuded middle: "LEM is right, a teddy bear, or wrong".
  22. Here are some links: http://www.youtube.c...m/videos?view=0 http://www.peikoff.com/podcasts/ http://www.philosophyinaction.com/ http://www.aynrand.o...?pagename=index http://aynrandlexicon.com/ http://campus.aynrand.org/ http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=1 And if you'd like to spar some with him on friendly ground I've heard a lot of good about the commentaries of Aristotle by Aquinas .
