  1. I heard that the term changed from African American to Black American since the first term was confusing with Caucasian Africans. Tribal mentalities are needlessly complicated.
  2. There is nothing wrong with coming up with valid theories on unanswered questions but God is never the answer because it cannot exist in conjunction with reality.
  3. Yeah Tina Fey said the seeing Alaska thing. I do not think she is great or anything but the media crucified her to get Obama elected. I have seldom seen so much ignorance as among people who dislike Palin. So many perpetrated lies that few questioned; it was like the hate against Bush all over again.
  4. You hold contradictory views. Principled stands on issues are difficult when your display name is Shades of Gray. The concept of moral grayness gives more credence to unjustified stances than they deserve. On top of that your stance is somewhat confusing. Of course the money by itself has no value, money does nto have intrinsic value. But it represents the principles involved in this case. In careers money is a sign of reward for something done well. They are giving a disproportionate amount to people who do nto deserve it. The money indicates the principles or lack thereof here. It is good that your looking into this but after the first post you seemed to not be as concerned and that makes little sense to me atleast.
  5. Yeah I am fairly sure he was mocking you with sarcasm. There is no justification for what is happening to you but if you want to bend over and give them sanction by giving them the possibility of justification that is your choice. Rewarding less effort or ability over the more accomplished and talented is an injustice that hurts all, even those who it intends to help.
  6. I still am not sure how an Objectivist system can apply any kind of government control to the free market. Now if a group of companies set up an agreement amongst themselves to limit their pollution and publicize it so that consumers may take it into account that this company limits their pollution; that seems plausible and justified. Compulsion of any nature does not seem advisable and even if its still voluntary, chances are it would work better without government involved.
  7. these religion and God topics are getting annoying but man I am totally up on my simple proofs for God's nonexistence. I wonder why people crave an irrational and impossible answer to questions of creation.
  8. The benefits and harms of circumcision and no circumcision are all fairly minor so honestly they do not affect the argument much. But if the procedure is near useless why have it anyways? And why have parents making permanent choices for a child before they can even comprehend said choices when there is no reason? I do not think illegalization is the answer but it just seems quite pointless in general and because the benefits are so small or nonexistent I would favor no not circumcising much more than circumcision.
  9. I think the procedure is pointless and the reasons for it are arbitrary but making it illegal does not seem quite necessary. Government intervention always makes things more awkward and inefficient and ultimately this is a really small issue. I think you would get a lot further urging free will to do what you will with the tip of your stuff instead of parents dictating what happens in infancy.
  10. I was circumcised long before i even knew what it was. I do not know exactly how it affected me but I would guess I would be slightly better uncircumcised. I have never really put much thought into the issue till now but it seems the evidence is pretty overwhelming against it. I do not think it is a huge travesty and would not sue my parents for it, nor do I think it should me illegalized. But I think that now that I know more I would not have it done to my children.
  11. Jake is quite abrasive but it still remains that God cannot coexist with reality as a supernatural being is a contradiction of reality. On top of that Catholicism has a history of corruption and ignorance that plunged us into the Dark Ages. There are some small amounts of good values, such as hard work and personal investment and happiness, occasionally associated with religion but they are often not actually associated with it by teaching. I want to know what you get out of religion that cannot be found anywhere else. Also our beliefs are similar because they follow a guided path of personal induction, thought and observation fo reality to gain knowledge. With similar values and a similar course many come to a similar conclusion. We do not like mysticism because it is frankly bullshit and we do not want sacrifice because it helps no one but those who seek power or destruction of others. On a more general note you guys are arguing scripture in the Bible of all books. Most older books have some plot holes or discrepancies but a religious text like the bible is so full of contradictions and myths that these disputes just seem inane because eventually whoever wins just knows his bs and contradictions best.
  12. The actual existence of God is fictional and in conflict with the existence of reality. What you speak of is understanding of God as it is a psychological affliction, know how it affects the minds of others, their values, and their treatment of yourself. The symptoms of religious faith are akin to a psychological disorder: dissociation from reality, hearing voices, refusal of reason, etc. Understanding how a myth such as this effects psychology I think is admissible, but considering the myth of God as anything other than fictional is intellectually cowardly.
  13. Referring to the primitive example. The primitive can have a theory that dancing causes rain and another that planting seeds causes plants. The difference is one will be disproven by reality definitively quite soon. That dancing and rain were correlated is surprising enough. With correct conditions each time seeds will always produce plants.
  14. he's 71, anything over 20 years is pretty close to a life sentence. Courts like to make examples especially when the size of the punishment is in actuality pointless. I do agree it is not just though.
  15. I respect him as a musician for what he contributed although his music is not to my personal taste. However I think whether the sexual assault allegations are true or not he had deep psychological problems likely from abuse. Despite such a harmful cause to his problems I think he likely engaged in reality-evasion as we was out of touch with many concepts of the real world and adulthood and this makes me not respect him as much as a person. In short, talented performer with personal problems; that's a new one, eh?
  16. There is no proof for it because once again it is supernatural. Dead things do not in any known circumstances continue living. Also what would continue living? the body and mind are buried and dead. But then again why focus on death so much. The goal of life is life so live for your time on earth not some hypothetical world that may or may not exist. Honestly heaven just seems like a comfort to those afraid of death or who are not satisfied with their lives.
  17. I meant extraordinary as in unusual but still existing in reality. We could find an alien lifeform that would seem god-like but since it is existing in reality it is still natural just highly extraordinary. This would be like many things claimed to be supernatural, just contradictions exploded by rationality and reason or reality.
  18. The thing we are all trying to hammer home is that the supernatural cannot exist. If it did exist and exist integrated with reality it would no longer be supernatural. So by being able to observe it and know it exists it would have to cease being supernatural. If we found a God he could not be a God he would just be a more dynamic life form, probably an alien. But as long as reality is defined the life form would have boundaries and rules. Basically by the laws of nature the supernatural cannot exist or be perceived because the term and everything labeled by it is a contradiction. It can either be extraordinary and natural or not exist.
  19. Jutley you invent definitions and then claim them to be valid. God is predefined as the undefined and unknowable since Gods are supernatural, not what your whim decides. Kendall you are right I am responsible for my time and I do know this. People such as Jutley who blank their mind out and get indignant and righteous like they know their right, in this case about not being able to be right or wrong, make me angry because its sheer, blind ignorance. His view is so absurd that all Gods could be disproven and his claim could still be made because it is based in unknowable, fairy-tale land.
  20. technically the unprovable is false because it has no evidence and the only claims of its existence are based in contradictions or faulted logic. To prove things and gain knowledge we use reason. Reason is based in reality; you observe and make conclusions which are tested in reality, the natural world. God is supernatural by nature meaning he defies reality, reason, logic, existence, etc by definition. You cannot prove a contradiction and the method of disproving it is the lack of its proof or the faulted contradictions that attempt to prove it. Basically God exists or reality does. And to Juttles stop wasting our time ignoring everything posted and contradicting yourself. If you want to waste time fantasizing about mystical creatures and claiming they exists because you think contradictory logic and belief is knowledge that is fine but it's fairly annoying to blank your mind out and not make an effort to think.
  21. The fines will not ever deter the crime because they cannot be done in a widespread manner. they cannot catch or try every person. If you want to beat the problem embrace the method. Get music to people easier. Other than iTunes which has its issues there are not that many good options that provide good quality music online. Also instead of struggling to punish people with fines use the method of file sharing but find a legal and easy way to accomplish it and draw customers away from illegal download methods. Fines work moderately but the way to defeat illegal downloading is by providing better ways that still provide ease to customers and justice to artists.
  22. I agree with some of your general points although it doesnt seem like too much new, but the existence of God can never be reconciled with reality or reason so you carry a contradiction no matter how rational you are otherwise. I have rational friends who believe in God but they just have not taken the time to fairly investigate the reason and nature of their belief in God.
  23. I am the same way as you D'kian and some others. I do not quite get dancing and do not enjoy it too much. I react to music I like in my own way but usually it is more internal. I think it is like general music taste different for most people and for some it just doesnt quite appeal. I think that performance dancing is an art however. There is a big difference between recreational and professional performance dancing and they serve different purposes obviously.
  24. If anything supernatural exists reality's rules are breakable. That cannot and will not happen. If you find a being akin to a God as long as it Rationally exists with explanations behinds its properties and characteristics it is not a God. God is defined by not being defined or constrained. For it to be a God it would have to break defined rules and limits with no reasoning behind them. The definition of God is something that contradicts reason and reality. There may be other forces we do not know or understand but they are not Gods, they are rational, explicable and quantifiable phenomena; God and the supernatural cannot be. Reality exists or God does.
