  1. The source of moral obligation could probably rest in certain facts that are based on the assessment of the ability of the child to subsist independently. We certainly wouldn't want every parent to grab their child who couldn't fight back and drop them from tops of buildings. I think governance of the home should be congruent with governance of an Oist system, therefore, the government can only intervene when the governance of the home breaks the law of physical force and fraud. Obviously physical force must be defined a little differently in the home. On a continuum, basic subsistence is neutral, whereas negligence and physical force are taken as absolute values in the direction of physical force. This is also congruent with an Oist government that protects the country. Basic subsistence is the benchmark. Microgovernance should be congruent with macrogovernance. And where the actual variables involved are different, I think an attempt to find relationships with the Oist constant is a step toward the answer.
  2. Hello, everyone, my name's Nate. I stumbled upon Objectivism not too long ago. It looks like it could be a helpful guide toward a better future for anyone who is diligent enough to use its ideas. I like to use the Scientific Method whenever I can. I've been able to apply it to different aspects in my life. But sometimes problems can manifest when more than one choice is rational. Then it becomes a matter of making decisions and holding them to be provisionally true. Unfortunately, time is sometimes lost with this process. To compensate, I've adopted an Extropian Immortalist philosophy. I think it's certainly congruent with Oism in many respectful regards, but it goes a step further in suggesting that there is a better future awaiting us when Artificial Intelligence passing the Turing Test (full-blown AI) begins to change the socio-economic stage in ways we cannot comprehend, and it will actually be for the better. You already have probably had such discussions. I haven't read any posts yet on this site so I apologize if this is a little redundant. I think Oism can be a good tentative philosophy until we are uploaded into AI networks and begin sharing in a single coherent Truth which is likely to be a philosophy no one has ever come up with before. On a pragmatic scale, Oism is one of the necessary vehicles toward these particular goals. Highly motivated individuals who work best and do the best things are those who are not restrained by big government. However, I might sometimes suggest altruism, but I'm not an enemy of Oism. I simply think it is reasonable to help others help themselves directly harmoniously alongside an indirect means such as capitalism. People cannot know Truth if they grow up in a shithole and never learn the right questions to ask. This must be considered and addressed. I have many interests that are in some way related to reason. Some of these include physiology, cognitive science, computer science, business administration, pharmacology, posthumanism, exercise science, economics, political science, philosophy, and many others. Currently I work as a certified personal trainer through American Council on Exercise and soon I'll be getting my license as a Clinical Exercise Specialist.
