  1. I'm not suggesting such a thing. I would not be surprised however if it were discovered to be the case that the Government are working on such things that Tesla's work had at least inspired if not directly influenced. The HAARP technology in recent development certainly springs to mind. I think that learning of the lives of scientists and their struggles is an essential part of education for inspirational purposes. It is difficult to teach without inspiring the mind to want to learn more. As for my history class, we didn't even learn about the GREEKS! This is what state education in the UK is like. It is probably one of the worst in Europe from what I have heard.
  2. What is shocking is that I was taught about Edison and Bell, but never Tesla in school. Why did they miss this man out of my education? I suppose state run schools just don't have time for proper teaching.
  3. Did a quick search, not much came up on it at all.
  4. I just watched this youtube video online. I had no idea who Tesla was but this video really struck a chord with me. Tesla and his life is a true Roark type story. I wonder now what secrets of his inventions are kept classified by the US government and exactly how much of our lives today are impacted by Tesla's inventions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt8Y93k0pB0
  5. Wow, I always thought there was something of a Marxist Utopian element in Libertarian thinking. But still, there is a contradiction of ethics and politics in thinking one can defend and advocate individual rights whilst adhering to collectivism and altruism. Whether European Anarchists wish to acknowledge this contradiction or not is another thing entirely.
  6. These are by far the most blatant contradictions in this thinking and it does not help that he has a silly idea of 'innate' morality to boot. What is troubling about the man is that it is difficult to pin down completely what he stands for while he espouses elegantly what he is against. I think it is very telling that he was once quite a radical marxist whilst now he seems to have professed a respect for the principles of individual rights and of the founding fathers. A Marxist Libertarian is certainly a contradiction in terms and I wonder how he could justify such a stance. It is a tragedy how people of high intelligence can be rational in some areas of life and completely irrational in others.
  7. I thought it was good. They slowed the pace down somewhat which was needed.
  8. If you are used to coming up against problems most of your life and have accepted a malevolent universe premise for the majority of your time on this earth, and then something changes in you and in your circumstances and you see, perhaps for the first time that the universe is not malevolent and that not all people are evil, that can certainly a reason for tears of joy. The best I can describe it is a release of intense joy and relief from intense pain, sadness for lost time and hope for the coming future. Its a wonderful experience.
  9. Well, isn't this thread a nice example of psychological projection.
  10. Ya know, until you mentioned it that never occurred to me. I thought it seemed like he is about to position her head ready to kiss her.
  11. I'm not sure actually, I found it on a random blog and it did not have a description of where the photo came from.
  12. Its apparently a photo of David Lynch and Isabella Rossellini. I like it very much and thought I would share.
  13. Ha! They uploaded another one. It was pretty good.
  14. You know whats spooky? I missed the live broadcast on the abc website (I just learned that apprently it has not aired yet? weird), so I went onto megavideo to watch the recording and all the parts where the V make these kind of claims were edited out by the person who recorded it! Looks like the Obama nuts are up to their tricks again! I wonder how long this series will last..........
  15. In a recent debate with a mystic I have struck upon another important fallacy that sets up another impossible standard. After pointing out the contradictions inherent in a mystics 'floating abstractions' and means of acquiring knowledge, the last refuge that they think that have in regard to epistemology is the notion that 'being present' allows on to be more aware of the mind and the world and as such have better quality of life as a result. It took me a while afterwards to think the mystics argument and what it implies is fallacious in the context of the whole mystic's philosophy. Be Present they say, but don't think, blanking out the fact that it requires one to be actively think about the world and form conceptual knowledge based upon observations order for one to understand the present moment and what is taking place within it. What the mystic is trying to do is sneak some semi-rational sounding cliché whilst setting up an impossible method for one to try and attempt to achieve it. Also it assumes that awareness and knowledge is automatic and comes in fits of revelation from some 'innate' awareness that human beings possess. It should have been more obvious to me at first why this argument was wrong and how, but it was only until afterwards when the mystic thought that he had won the argument with the phrase did I think through and realize all that was implied.

  17. Your reply was not all that bad. Grames jumped on it merely becuase you said 'because'. Honestly, this board can be way too unfriendly at times.
  18. LOLOLOLOL That is so funny! But seriously, this book is very funny and encapsulates the intentional irrationally and confusion inherent in big government bureaucracy. I know little about the man or his philosophy, I got given the book by a housemate after a conversation on the nature of government. Is his philosophy really messed up?

    Franz Kafka

I have started reading this book and so far it is very good. Anyone else read this book? What did you think of it?
  20. Three things Ron Paul deserves mockery for: - Christianity - Foreign policy - Pro-life stance All of these are consequences of his philosophical subjectivism. One could also argue that his philosophy leads to his support for Libertarianism and Multiculturalism.
  21. It does not matter how many times you repeat the fact of the primacy of existence to a hardcore subjectivist, he will evade it with appeals to the authority of his/her experience. Even if they concede that there is an objective reality, they want it both ways and will state that ones perception of such a reality is not complete and never can be due to faults in ones perceptions. Kantianism at work. It is pointless debating with such a person if they do not accept the intial premise of the primacy of existence. Only when they accept this can they be open to further discussion.
  22. Thats like saying the only opposition to racism is racism. Its all the same, there is no opposition party here.
  23. After researching a little further there seems to be a real distinction between Plasma Cosmology and E.U. Just to point this out as I was confusing and conflating the two. At least Plasma Cosmology was based upon real science, but it has been debunked many years ago. E.U. is just flat out crackpot nonsense.
  24. Spending time integrating induction it time better spent. I can safely say that although initially interesting, after further investigation, PC is mere crackpottery.
