  1. The only collectivists I have encountered are of the latter variety. I'd also venture that age plays an important part in how I feel as well. I can tangle a collectivist of my own age in his own contradictions without effort. It's extremely pathetic because of lack of thought involved on their part. That, too. On the other hand, I feel contempt and disgust for those older than me, who claim to enjoy this type of debate for the sake of "exercising one's brain", yet attempt to conceal his nonexistent defense behind patronizations of me being naive, compassionless, and he being older/wiser/more skilled at this thing called life. I recently spent the larger portion of a lecture discussing this with one of my professors, only to have it boil down to me being a heartless human being. Anyhow.
  2. I'm the same way, intellectualammo. The throw was made by a relative I haven't seen in awhile. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have even picked it up. There is something about lions, though... I love the way the light catches in that photo. Reminds me of that first moment when you step into a new space for the very first time; Looking around at all of the potential. Zip, you did a fantastic job. You have a front lawn now! I'm particularly fond of your dining set. What are the fixtures on the chandelier? Are they cranes, or of an abstract design?
  3. I have a room -- but considering that it's a college apartment, I think I've done a decent job with my tiny bit of space. It's changed a bit since I took these (I accumulate material possessions like a raven does shiny things), but you get the general idea. Desk, bed, bedside.
  4. What was her statement on this, just out of curiosity? Or is there a thread within these forums which I can reference?
  5. Funny, I was just wondering about this book today. I always took it as minimalism = happiness, objects = discontent. Gee, thanks mom.
  6. Ah, but waiting and working towards it makes the end result all that more enjoyable. It took me going off to college in a metro area to fully appreciate the boondocks that were once my old stomping grounds.
  7. These are lovely. Speaking as someone who lives on a lake, I'm accustomed to shiny new speedboats 24/7 -- but these are really great. If offered a ride in one, I'm not certain that I'd be able to turn the person in question down.
  8. My edition of Atlas Shrugged is an E-book; So while it reads page 62, this may/may not vary in the text copies.
  9. I'm somewhat surprised that no one has mentioned Olivia Wilde yet. Fantastic actress; I wish she would do more big screen roles, however. I remember reading somewhere that she is a natural blond -- I find it interesting that her hair is seldom that color. My favorite photo of Ayn Rand. Such a lovely and vibrant young woman. I realize that she's an acquired taste, but Karen O (right). She's serpentlike...and mesmerizing.
