  1. How about Ferris Beuler's Day Off? Or Boondock Saints? Snatch?
  2. took this in an intro poli sci course. i recall so many people who tried to argue that a company has huge social responsibilities (as if it was there to tuck us in at night and made us feel all warm and fuzzy?!) That's why i'm not looking forward to going back to college this one last semester. Reason and logic are ABSENT from campuses today....
  3. "Now Iran is threatening preemptive attacks against the U.S. if they feel that we are about to bomb their nuclear facilities." I'd rather have america pre-emptively attacked via a plane/bomb or some shite missile than a fission bomb.... by the way, iran DID mobilize it's troops on the iraq/iran border a few months back, but quickly backed off. forget the reasoning, but i do recall it being more than just 'exercises'.
  4. "as opposed to Pres. Bush who consults "God", his bible and his guardian angel for guidance." for guidance? Maybe for guidance on how to act in relationships....but on how to conduct foreign policy? Get a grip dood. Betsy, question.... if one believes in God or a higher being, does that mean he/she cannot be rational and objective in other aspects of his or her life (excluding religion and the like)? I figure if one person can answer this, it is you....
  5. militant islam for now. no other threat is greater than that right now. police force is way down the line. but it will have it's time. especially if militant islam is pacified by socialist governments....(spain, france and and soon enough, australia)
  6. "The whole "big-business-is-out-to-enslave-and-impoverish-mankind" message is just wearing thin and trying my patience. How can people believe it despite all the evidence to the contrary?! " Because the evidence to the contrary is in books and in rational business and economic sense. All of which, most countries youth completely lack, much less could read. Also, the lack of responsibility of one's own life. IMO...it's imperative that a counter-argument to this movie is necessary...
  7. can't say i'm too sure that it's not a trilogy. Hero may not be a trilogy, but everywhere else i've looked points to the ideathat CTHD is in fact, a trilogy. So maybe it has nothing to do with Hero itself...but.....you get the idea. Other than that, i've nothing else to add.
  8. My Webpage same thing is basically said on: My Webpage those are but two of many media sites that cite this quote and the idea behind it. if you need more links, or if you need me to search the web for you, don't hesitate to ask.
  9. of course the grand problem is islamic extremism...but as a nation, we cannot just say we're going to destroy that religion, or incarcerate/kill the leaders of islamic extremism. And of course we cannot declare war on the Religion of Peace (as Bush said, for misdirection). Of course, those who belong to terrorist pockets and factions also support islamic extremism. I think we're kinda trying to hit two birds with one stone...
  10. apparently Crouching Tiger... is a part of a trilogy, as Hero is the 2nd part....so i've been told. I'm going to just wait till it hits the movie theaters. Need the surround sound and big screen, imo...
  11. I take it that you're suggesting that the only ethic a fundamentalist christian has is 'sacrifice'. Can you apply this reasoning to say...his foreign policy pursuits over the last three and a half years? Actually, Bush consults with a large number of highly educated individuals in his cabinet (if having a Harvard MBA was not good enough). For the fact that he utilizes Powell, Rumsfeld, and Rice, three great individuals who have strong (but very different) visions for this country (which the media continually examines the disagreement in this group, but which is an excellent move to avoid groupthink allthewhile having all options considered), really doesn't prove to me that "God' is his major foreign policy consultant. If anything, it was "God" that probably stopped Bush from launching cruise missiles at random buildings and killing innocent civilians (a la clinton in 98), and going after terrorists with our armed ground forces. I believe that this stab at Bush was probably motivated by this embryonic stem cell controversy, but again refuting your claim, Bush has taking the route of reason. How, you ask? Because he's authorized adult stem cell research which HAS in fact been shown to work since the early 1980's, while embryonic stem cell research has not proven a single success to date. Will agree wtih the seperation of church and state. And, the seperation of state and church, as it may be now...and rammed through Congress? Are you suggesting that the individual congressmen/women had no free will to sign or not to sign onto the bill? Unfortunately we don't hear (for security purposes) all the incidents where the patriot act HAS worked to the benefit of American security. Kinda like 2nd amendment rights... PAII has yet to be seen, and just because it goes through Congress doesn't mean it will get passed...... Pretty much agree, but not sure if otc drugs from canada would be considered contraband or what....will have to check on the statutes and laws Religious-based fascism? How is it fascism? Can't recall hearing any headlines that the by presidential order, the government assumed all rights to property....and the dumbing down of our schools, or anti-intellectualism, comes from the Left just dumping money into school systems that continue to fail, and there is no accountability in this system. It's the religious-based schools that, at least in my state, have produced the brightest kids, and continue to out-perform public schools in most areas. No, this anti-ideology does not come from any God-fearing person, but by those who believe in reletavism WITHOUT reason. Any rights groups today is highly politicized. that's just a fact. I truly believe that you've really made a weak parallel between Bush and Christian fundamentalism. Just because he believes in God doesn't make anyone a fundamentalist. It's almost like saying that Hamid Karzai is a muslim fundamentalist. I'm sorry, but i just dont' know where exactly Bush has focused on religious-stewardship property rights..... Whole-heartedly disagree. With precedent, though maybe a weak one, I'd prefer to live in a theocracy than to live in a communist/totalitarian regime. Ultimately, what i think most of us disagree upon is what is worse: to have a president pursuant of socialization policies, or to have one who strongly believes in a higher being. or in a breath, what is more important to an objectivist: capitalism or atheism
  12. "He wants us to look like the good, merciful guys under the eyes of God. So his religious views cloud his sense of justice big-time" If he wants us to look like the good merciful guys under the eyes of God, it follows that we would not be doing anything to fight the war on terrorism, re: via turning the other cheek. We would send missionaries over, not abrahms tanks and apache hellicopters....
  13. Pressure does not necessarily equate to action. Kerry has historically been vehemently against individual wealth creation and the free market. Kerry has said many times that he will nationalize health care. That's a big difference from 'right to live-saving drugs'. A HUGE difference. CATO has an excellent analysis of Kerry's healthcare position. Don't get me wrong, both candidates suck in relation to the free market, but you have the choice between an expresslane to hell and the more scenic route. I"ll have to choose the scenic route for now, that is, if Peikoff is so adamant to have everyone support a candidate. besides, bush has, in the least, considered the abolishment of the IRS.
  14. For me, i'm more concerned about nationalization of industries and healthcare, the internationalization of our defense, and the great leap towards socialism that this country could take, and less concerned with the christians who are 'apparently' trying to take over this country. I'm not giddy about either candidate, but for me at least, a president who yields to God is preferable to one who believes that more government is the answer....
  15. some of you need to read the chapter in "Capitalism: An Unknown Ethic" called "The Death of Conservatism" It should point out to you why the republican party does not embrace capitalism as much as they do religion nowadays.....a good read.
  16. wouldn't that be an excellent turn of events. I understand Alan Keyes has been a huge proponent of this for years...
  17. speaking of taxation, i've been hearing things through the wires (and not via drudge, frankly) that the republicans, or at least bush's 2nd term objectives include dissolving the IRS completely..... but i guess drudge might have a bit more on this via his alerts.....anywhooo
  18. I"ve justed finished the chapter on price controls and my mind is absolutely blown. the best amo (in modern terms) for capitalism, and against government control. if you're interested in ADVANCED economics...then why not read Thomas Sowell's "Advanced Economics". It's everything and more i'm sure. And exactly what you would be looking for per your inquiry....
  19. Cato.org has a strong stance on Kerry's healthcare. Frankly Kerry doesn't know basic economics.
  20. indeed. most objectivists will be NT's....howard roark, ayn rand herself, galt even. A few others to add that are intj's. Ludwig Von Mises, William Buckley, Rumsfeld...
  21. i would say i'm a psuedo objectivist of sorts..... I do believe in God. I'm not a pure one like most on this board. ...recently though i've actually started arguing against such mysticism, which, in the heat of discussion, caught both myself and my opponent, off guard. I'm quit confident i can argue most objectivists points, though I may not actually 'live' like an objectivist in regards to the issue of religion.... take it as you will....but i see the world from the objectivist standpoint.
  22. what do you mean? I'm thinking that because you see them as a false alternative...that the once you chose were rational and logical. INTJ, possibly. who knows?
  23. http://www.advisorteam.com/temperament_sor...er.asp?partid=1 the above link is for those who've never taken it. I've taken it a few times over the last year to see if i've progressed into something new, especially having read atlas shrugged, but found that i'm the same INTJ i always was. Upon further research, I found that Ayn Rand was also an INTJ, too. Was curious if there are others of this personality type on the board. My initial thoughts are that most people on this board will probably be either entj's or intj's. Anyways....thanks for the input.
  24. that just makes you look more guilty xanadu. if you knew the response to the comments you made, certainly you intentionally made those comments to piss people off. nice one, jerkstore.
  25. are you suggesting that only rational women pursue men? Not that i disagree....it does make sense in some context....
