  1. Any objectivists in the Myrtle Beach, SC area? How do you other people meet like-minded individuals? I feel like I am on an island here philosophically, and it isn't healthy. Thanks in advance.
  2. I think the onslaught against libertarianism is grossly misguided. Seems you people are just interested in people being "Objectivists" with a capital "O" instead of the thoughtful discussion of ideas. Similar to a cult. Sad really.
  3. Wow, thanks for the replies everyone. I'll pass this information on to my friend. You guys/gals are great.
  4. Hello everyone. I'm trying to explain Objectivism to a friend. Of course I started with metaphysics and after explaining the three basic axioms, I tried to explain our denial of the supernatural. Being a ghosthunter himself, my friend explained his experiences with EVPs (I have heard them myself, and they are thought-provoking) and experiences actually "seeing" ghosts. How can an Objectivist explain these things? Thanks for your help.
  5. That's exactly how I'm thinking about the logic class I'm currently taking. It's telling me nothing about the world.
  6. DrJaneGalt, you can instant message me on AIM at GTNCAA. My email is [email protected] as well.
  7. I can relate to you on this subject, argive. I am 20, am a budding objectivist, and still dealing with some hefty psychological issues, such as social anxiety, depression, and a sex addiction. I must say the times I have focused on not viewing pornography and holding the view that sex should be shared by two people who share the same values and are in love, have been the happiest I've been. This is a huge issue for me as well. I haven't really read any of the other posts yet except Elle's first on this topic, because I wanted to make sure I typed this reply. Does anyone else have anything to say about this subject?
  8. Here in South Carolina, the Christian influence is immense. I used to be staunchly Christian...to the point of thinking about entering the ministry. My, how things have changed.
  9. Thanks DPW. Seems like I will be utilizing the same idea.
  10. I hope this doesn't happen; I live in South Carolina!
  11. I'm in a similar situation. The class is Business Ethics, and the first ethical theory the professor explained was egoism. Of course he went over the subjective version of it, and unfortunately, I didn't know how to respond. We have to write a few papers in the class, and in the one I already turned in I made it clear that I favor an objective egoism, and I received the highest grade possible with the note "Excellent response" on my paper. It does not help my case that I suffer from social phobia, making it difficult to voice my opinion in a public forum. If anyone has advice for my situation in the class, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Stan
