Atlas Shrugged: Official Movie Trailer and casting
mmmcannibalism replied to musenji's topic in Movies, Shows, and Theatre
My thoughts on how good the movie will be jumped through the roof after seeing the trailer. -
I can picture it, beautiful.

Looking good from what I've seen here, I think I'll pick up a copy.

"Atlas Shrugged", the movie - Status in 2011?
mmmcannibalism replied to Melissa-PBRP's topic in Aesthetics
There is another thread on the board right now to talk about the movie. They are currently filming the first movie(covering the first third of the book); and they are doing the whole book as a trilogy if it does well enough commercially. Face book page being run by the makers of the movie http://www.facebook.com/#!/AtlasShruggedMovie -
I'm still not sure if it is proper to mark the yes I have evidence of them box.

There are hundreds of billions of planets; if the average chance of life developing on a planet is as small as one in ten billion we would still expect multiple planets with life.
-
Does mathematical probability suggesting other planets with life count as evidence? I don't have any direct evidence that there have been aliens to earth for instance, but I still hold the completely rational belief that for how large our universe is it would be astounding if there wasn't other life.

If the property has a clearly identified owner then I would say its theft to keep(barring something strange such as them having left the country without an address). Suppose your car rolls down a hill into your neighbor's yard, does it become his car?
-
In the spirit of the scientific method, how about you provide evidence for some of that. Listing a giant list of things you don't like after a name isn't exactly a convincing point.

What is the possibility of getting back into the government job if you were to join the private company and then be cut?

So I saw through Randex that there is a graphic novel version of anthem now in existence. Does anyone know if it is good/does justice to the story. If it is true to the story, is the art style respectable enough to warrant a purchase for someone who already has a copy of anthem.

I watched some of it; after about 20 minutes I got tired of hearing "but some people do good stuff cuz of god ergo god is coolerific" type logic. -
Two newbie questions about objectivist principles
mmmcannibalism replied to woly's topic in Questions about Objectivism
I'll leave the first one to someone with a little more background to the second here's a simple scenario I have some iron; I turn it into a plow. Because a plow is more useful then raw iron I sell the plow to a farmer for some food. Now the farmer has better equipment and I have food. The wealth creation is involved in the work that turns materials into something valuable. In free trade all exchanges are an exchange of something you value for something you value more. -

As to an action that is morally neutral; a situation where the choice being made doesn't change the outcome. For instance, if you think two equally healthy foods taste equally good; choosing between them for a meal is morally neutral because neither choice is better. Likewise, if your given the choice be shot or jump off a cliff the decision is morally neutral.

The private property owner(owner of the restaurant) has the right to set the behavior standards of his property. If people are at your house allowing or disallowing smoking is your choice; same principle applies to a restaurant.

That is really awesome.

When is economic assistance appropriate?

You should actually gain an understanding of Objectivism before posting questions about it on a message board. -
Luck simply means a coincidence that had a favorable(or unfavorable if bad luck) outcome. For instance, if I go out for lunch and run into a friend I haven't talked to in years it is good luck because a positive outcome happened even though I made no specific action* to cause it. *meaning I choose actions that caused it, but I did not intend to cause what happened and the lucky event was only a matter of concurrence.

Larsen's work is amazing. -
The way I read into it(haven't read his books so this could be rather uninformed); he seems to believe in utilitarianism to some extent, but seems to realize that communism is not the way to maximize that.

US Midterm Elections 2010
mmmcannibalism replied to JASKN's topic in US Elections 2004/2008/2012/2016
Only voted in house raise and senate (West Virginia district with mckinley) Straight gop (/not fun); Raese shows a little promise of being an actual capitalist and mckinley if he won would probably get wiped out in 2 years anyway.
