Ordr
Crap! 3000 degrees C in that thing. I just got a whole new respect for Hank Rearden I'd venture to guess that Rearden Metal laughs in the face of 3000 degrees C. It'll take more heat than that to melt that stuff . Edit: It is mentioned in AS that Rearden Metal won't melt until it reaches temperatures over 4000 degrees. That will put it right in the same ballpark as tungsten, the metal with the highest melting temperature. That will put it right in the same ballpark as tungsten, the metal with the highest melting temperature. I suspect the temp quoted in AS was in Fahrenheit though. Melting stuff like tungsten (or other refractories like rhenium, osmium and iridium) is really demanding. At those temperatures anything will glow as brightly as the sun--and thereby radiate heat that way. No such thing as doing a "pour", as soon as you stop applying heat, it will solidify. You have to melt the metal in its mold. http://www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/Stories/077.x3/

Jake_Ellison
This isn't funny, but it explains perfectly what the similarities are between Coldplay's Viva La Vida (best song at the Grammys) and a song Joe Satriani wrote three years ago -If I Could Fly- that no one payed attention too (except, obviously, the members of Coldplay): I like it because, unlike most youtube videos, this offers the answer to a question I had trouble answering by myself. Mammon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWQR36dW0GA I like this video, I think it's surprisingly artistic. It's also weird how you can do something like this, and put it online. What a flat world.

SD26
Ok, it's not my favorite yet, but it's one of my old videos off VHS that I made by mounting a camera on my tank with, well, duct tape. I actually made it digital by video-ing the TV playing the VHS tape. Anyway, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucO-dufEZvE, and I do crash on the last lap. Thales
Fly At Night, by Chilliwack ... [not to be confused with Rush's Fly by Night.] What stands out about this song is tempo along with some uplifting lyrics. But the tempo starts out slow, then increases, and later increases again. The song has lots of energy delivered brilliantly and this is what I love about it. The lyrics make you feel like you're on a rocket ship [yes, my avatar]. It's far from perfect and it's only a rock song, but what it does it does well and so I thought I'd link to it here. I checked out some of Chilliwack's other work and all else I heard was rather mediocre. Edited February 13, 2009 by Thales

SD26
Wild ride! Are you Super Dave after Super Dave Osborn? Yeah, kind of. I started road racing back when Osborn was on Showtime. Seems like if you do "something", you get a nick name. Revin' Kevin, Fast Freddie, Steady Eddie...Well, with Dave, I got Super attached and it stuck.
