Can anyone recommend a book about the history of banking in the U.S.A., specifically the Federal Reserve? I'm looking for something without a dishonest spin on it.

The only books I've started reading are books like "The Creature From Jekyll Island", and it spends a lot of time railing against business giants like J.P. Morgan and Rockefeller. Plus it reeks of conspiracy fairytale :)

I'm looking for more than a "nuts and bolts" book, I want to learn the nitty gritty details.

Thanks.

Milton Friedman's Monetary History of the United States is supposed to be pretty good as well, but I have not read it.
Not among the first few books one should read on the topic, though. The reason is that it is quite a detailed history. It includes information about discussions held before certain changes in Fed policy, who said what, and so on. Apart from the detailed recounting, it does not have much in terms of bringing things together via a commentary.
