West
I've shared this with a few in chat and they've gone on to deliver it to all their friends. It's great for scientist and layman alike. Enjoy. Scientific discoveries, Juan Enriquez notes, demand a shift in code. The shift from cave paintings to hieroglyphics made possible the rise of Egyptian society, the pyramids, and the conquest of other peoples. The shift to binary code brought with it the era of computing and then the Internet, with vast implications for just about every area of human endeavor. What will the rise of genomics -- our mastery of the genetic code -- bring for us? http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/
Mammon
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/193 There is also this lecture by the same guy on biofuels. I don't like his ideas at the end about imposing a tax on oil if it goes to a certan point in order to encourage research into biofuels.
