Mammon
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gOqek6U...PHvHPQD8VL5JF01 Gravel, a former Democratic senator from Alaska, said in an e-mail that the Democratic Party "no longer represents my vision for our great country." "It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism — all of which I find anathema to my views," he said in the e-mail in which he also asked supporters for campaign donations. [...] "I look forward to advancing my presidential candidacy within the Libertarian Party, which is considerably closer to my values, my foreign policy views and my domestic views," he said. This gives us a nice view of the Libertarian party and where they stand. Gotta love 'em huh?
DavidV
So the "party of principle" features the socialist Mike Gravel running against the fundamentalist Ron Paul for the presidential nomination. What "principles" do they agree on?
adrock3215
What "principles" do they agree on? Well of course, the principle that pot should be legal. Heh. But a more serious answer to your question is: A lot. Gravel and Paul agree on the essentials of philosophy.
TheEgoist
We can now add Socialist to the list of crazies in the Libertarian party.
DarkWaters
What "principles" do they agree on? That the United States has no right to take preemptive military action to defend its citizens, even if the enemy if aggressively seeking biological, chemical or nuclear weapons and is calling for the destruction of the United States. Zip
So, aside from the consistency of his political wrongheadedness how does one equate Democratic principals (collectivist statist and socialist) with supposed Libertarian principals (free market, overriding personal freedom, small government)? Anyone, anyone Bhuler?

In addition, both hold thoroughly Marxist principles in their views of history.

So now that we are both sure that I wasn't asking about the individual principals of the two men do you have a response to my question? That is how Gravel got in, that's why all their top candidates are anti-immigration, that is why the other sect of the party is mostly made up of Anarchists. So their view of Libertarian is just an opposition to Democrat or Republican with no real founding in the political ideology of Mill, Locke or any of the rest? D'kian
Now that you mentioned it... I only read the first two paragraphs. But the last time around, wasn't that ideology known as The Dictatorship Of The Proletariat?
Miles White
I only read the first two paragraphs. But the last time around, wasn't that ideology known as The Dictatorship Of The Proletariat? Perhaps, but I honestly can't stand reading about that philosophy without getting too frustrated. I believe that this is what you were talking about? Clawg
Libertarian Socialism is like asking "Give me your wallet" without a gun in one's hand.
Texas Libertarian
Libertarian Socialism............kinda like Kosher Pork Chops. I call myself a Libertarian, and Libertarians generally come in two types; pot smoking conservatives and gun carrying liberals. So you get what you get.
