Administration Assistant

The Ayn Rand Institute (“ARI”) is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant to join our Administration Department in our Irvine, CA office. This position reports to the VP of Finance and Administration. ARI is a non-profit organization that promotes the philosophy of Objectivism via educational and cultural programs.

The Administration Assistant performs the tasks of a receptionist. Areas of responsibility include answering telephones, responding to general inquiries via phone and email, processing incoming and outgoing mail and other deliveries or shipments, ordering supplies and keeping the storage rooms, inventories, and offsite storage area in order. On occasion, this position provides project support for other departments. This is an entry-level position.

Preferred candidates should be well acquainted with Objectivism. They must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and a familiarity with Access or other database software is helpful. Must be able to prioritize and maintain accuracy while multi-tasking. Must be able to accurately and efficiently input data. A professional demeanor and an ability to handle pressure calmly plus excellent organizational skills are essential.

Campus Club Assistant The Ayn Rand Institute (“ARI”) is seeking to hire one full-time employee to fill the position of Campus Club Assistant. This position reports to the Education Department Manager.

ARI is a non-profit organization that promotes the philosophy of Objectivism via educational and cultural programs.

The Campus Club Assistant will administer ARI's campus club programs, as well as provide support for other Education Department programs.

The Assistant will provide materials and encouragement to Ayn Rand clubs on college campuses, by helping new clubs to form and by facilitating speaking events across the country. The Assistant is responsible for answering telephone calls, e-mails, maintaining files, databases and records as well as assisting with the preparation of letters, emails, and other documents. The Assistant will also support the Education Department Manager in administering various aspects of ARI’s education programs (e.g. free books to teachers, curriculum books, essay contests, etc.) and updating information on Education Web sites.

The ideal candidate must be well acquainted with Objectivism and be able to communicate the ideas and principles when requested by telephone, e-mail or in writing. Must be thoroughly proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Familiarity with Filemaker or another database software is helpful, as well as ability to update Web pages. Must be able to prioritize and maintain accuracy while multi-tasking. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. A professional demeanor and an ability to handle pressure calmly plus excellent organizational skills are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with previous campus club experience.

Media Manager (Washington, D.C. Office)

The Ayn Rand Institute (“ARI”) is seeking an enthusiastic Media Manager to fulfill an integral role in helping ARI achieve its mission of promoting Ayn Rand and her philosophy, Objectivism, to the public. This highly-motivated person will lead our media team in developing new and existing programs to effectively impact media professionals, special interest groups, think tanks and the general public with our message.

The Media Manager is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Manage op-ed release and promotion, press release advisories, Letter-to-the-Editor programs, and arrange television and radio interviews for ARI speakers
  • Advise intellectuals and ARI spokesmen on public presentation methods and skills
  • Budgeting for and managing the media department including a seasoned staff of 2-3 media specialists under the direction of the VP of Public Outreach
  • Initiate contacts and develop relationships with media organizations and individuals in television, radio, and print who provide valuable outlets for ARI’s message
  • Stay abreast of ARI’s programs and activities and promote them to the media
  • Create and execute a media strategy

Preferred candidates will have the following demonstrated skills and experience: superb writing and verbal communication skill, strategic planning and execution skills, and an ability to generate fresh ideas and media leads. Preferred candidates will have a thorough knowledge of Objectivism, and be able to convey these ideas to various audiences orally and in written form. A college degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or similar field and management/supervisory experience is required. Knowledge of practices at not-for-profit organizations and extensive (5+ years) professional media experience with a national, high-profile organization are preferred. Candidates must be able to work effectively with various levels of staff within the organization as well as with general public, high profile public figures, and donors in addition to media professionals. Candidates should be proficient with MS Office and have a technical familiarity with web and broadcast technology suitable for multimedia production and distribution.

ARI will consider candidates nationwide, and the successful candidate will be required to train at ARI’s office in Irvine, CA for 2-3 months before working in our new Washington, D.C. office.

Writer and Research Coordinator

The Ayn Rand Institute ("ARI") is seeking a full-time Writer and Research Coordinator to work in our Irvine, California office. This is a full-time position reporting to the Vice President of Academic Programs.

ARI is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and spreads knowledge of the philosophy of Objectivism via various educational and cultural outreach programs.

One of the major responsibilities of this position will be to write press releases and op-eds under the guidance of senior editors. The Writer and Research Coordinator will also assist in the preparation of draft articles and lectures for ARI’s academic department and its writers, including research and fact-checking. The coordinator will occasionally write and edit copy for ARI's outreach programs and coordinate with other departments to ensure the publication of written pieces.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to pursuing and developing an intellectual career as a writer, and be interested in developing their writing and editing skills. A passion for ideas and how they impact the world along with an interest in current events are strongly desired. An undergraduate college degree, completion of ARI's OAC undergraduate program or current enrollment in the OAC is strongly preferred. A qualified candidate will have proven experience in: Writing, online and traditional source research, strong organizational ability, attention to detail, the ability to undertake multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines, a professional demeanor, and excellent written and oral communication skills. A solid understanding of the principles of Objectivism and an ability to communicate them verbally and in writing is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database software as Access is favorable.
