I see shit like this all the time, in political cartoons, in comics, in stories written by people. It's so dumb, notice the dollar sign as a Nazi symbol, at least they don't try to hide there intentions or not.

It's just odd that some people can view something as evil where others view it as good. The dollar sign was used a symbol of everything good in AS and in this video it's supposed to be everything evil, and of course behind it all is a fat stereo-typical looking capitalist who is made of fiat money. I bring it up because this video floating around today with people saying stuff like "What America is really like!" and "FREEDOM FUCK YEAH!" and "This reflects the view of the times" and it oddly does.

Such a backwards spinning world.

Normally I try to give people like Democrats the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes there are valid problems and, even though they have horribly warped ideas of how to fix said problems coupled with a poor understanding of the world, they are rarely completely ignorant, evasive or malicious.

That being said, this video is an irredeemable piece of garbage. I would give it credit if it was some sort of anti-totalitarian motif, but, my utter god, it shows an utter ignorance of the way things are. They show buildings and monuments as symbols of hope. Who built these monuments? Not the wanna-be anarchist punks that you raise up as heros. Not the men who came up the ideology you not-so-subtly raise up. Its like all of the most poorly made old socialist propaganda given a facelift and made to a catchy metal tune. The lyrics and song themselves don't even suggest half the idiocy in the cartoon. What a worthless piece of shit.

Edit; Apparently the song is a cover of an old Genesis song. I wonder if this is what they lyrics were supposed to mean?

I think the bloated evil thing was a symbol of global corporatism. The little people took it down and bound it, just like in -Gulliver's Travels-. The whole video was a tad over the top and was conceptually muddled. Note low the Leaders in Government are muddled and helpless. It is the masked man who broke his chains that is focused and knows what to do.

Anyone notice the comments posted by the viewers of the video in YouTube? Nothing but praise. . . .

I second everything ruveyn. I enjoyed watching Blair, Bush and the rest of the leaders scramble and bump heads :P Also, the $ sign as opposed to the swastika, that kicked ass! How great would it be to have that on your sleeve if you went into battle?!?!

Mammon, how did you come across this? Was this noted in the media, by a friend or are you just a fan of the band? Are they a "political" band.

I grew up a huge Rage Against The Machine fan until I sat back and thought about what they were saying. I loved their aggressive style and lyrics. Can't stand them anymore now that I know something but they were a big influence on a lot of people who still parrot their contemptible lines. Is there a band that carries the flag of reason and freedom that gets radio play?

Yeah. And in general i really hate people that try and convey a vague, totally "mudded" message, where you cant by any logic understand what excactly they are trying to say. I mean, here is a part of the lyrics of that song:

There's too many men, too many people

Making too many problems

And there's not much love to go around

Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

What does this mean? How does the fact that there are people "making too many problems" and that there isnt "much love to go around" mean that "this is a land of confusion"?

This is the world we live in

(ohh ohh oh)

And these are the hands we're given

(Ohh oh)

Use them and let's start trying

(ohh ohh oh)

To make it a place worth living in

This chorus on the other hand would fit perfectly in an objectivist song.

This is the world we live in = urging people to understand the nature of reality

And these are the hands we're given = urging people to understand who and what they are

Use them and let's start trying = urging people to understand that by making choices/actions based on reality they can change their situation

To make it a place worth living in = urging people to understand that their own happiness is the purpose of these actions

And i didnt even need to force those meanings in those lyrics, they fit quite well.....

I liked the voice of that singer though......

....

Part of the problem is that many businessmen do not resemble John Galt.

I love how when the "evil capitalist" gets killed and becomes a tornado of money, the money just magically heals the city, eliminates the fascists, and lets the sun shine through  . As if blindly robbing the rich and re-distributing their money would end all world wars and turn every city in the world into a thriving utopia :dough: . Oh, and the Islamic-looking guy also seems to have gone away, so apparently Capitalism causes religious zealotry as well.

The guy with the chains reminds me of Rand's description of the Communist propaganda posters in We The Living, the ones with the huge muscled worker striding over palaces and mansions.

I can't believe I used to like Disturbed.

Yeah, this is a fallacy ive never understood. Or the part ive never understood is how adult people actually do think that redistributing money helps. You often hear stuff like, "we have enough food to feed the world" as if acquiring food doesnt require any effort, and its just that we in the west have stolen the third worlds food....

I always like to say: "Sure, we could redistribute all the money and the food in the world, so everyone would get an equal share. All people may have food and clothes to wear for a week, but what happens the week after that?"

I also noticed the sudden resurrection of the monuments and buildings after the "evil capitalist" was killed. Its like they hold the view that buildings exist in nature, and after the evil capitalists dont destroy them anymore, everyone will once again be able to enjoy these buildings.

I can't believe I used to like Disturbed.

Sadly, most people who make nice sounding music are complete idiots.
