Alfa
Queen - Who wants to live forever Theres no time for us Theres no place for us What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away From us Who wants to live forever Who wants to live forever....? Theres no chance for us Its all decided for us This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us Who wants to live forever Who wants to live forever? Who dares to love forever? When love must die But touch my tears with your lips Touch my world with your fingertips And we can have forever And we can love forever Forever is our today Who wants to live forever Who wants to live forever? Forever is our today Who waits forever anyway? Edited October 16, 2008 by Alfa
adrock3215
I also like Whitney Houston's One Moment in Time. To me, it is a tribute to individualism: I want one moment in time When I'm more than I thought I could be When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me Give me one moment in time When I'm racing with destiny Then in that one moment of time I will feel I will feel eternity
Pete Caya
I have had many anthems (their moral value sticks, but I find newer songs that strike me just as much morally). My biggest anthemsong would probably be Take the Time by Dreamtheater: The unbroken spirit Obscured and disquiet Finds clearness this trial demands And at the end of this day sighs an anxious relief For the fortune lies still in his hands If there's pensive fear, a wasted year A man must learn to cope If his obsession's real, Suppression that he feels must turn to hope. Netafja
If you had to name one song to be your personal anthem, what would it be? Any song will do fine. Isoldes Tod from Tristan und Isolde
SherryTX
For overall effect, I would choose Take On Me by A-Ha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P_TV-gierM The lyrics are nothing special, but the combination of the song and the video project an excellent sense of life. On the basis of lyrics, I would go with Thunderball (the James Bond Theme), especially the first verse: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/t/tom+jones/thu...l_20138376.html I ADORE A-Ha! That is a great song - the video was quite a break through for its time as well. I would have to say - the closest to an Anthem for me would be: "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks. =) I also like "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds - but I am saving that for my funeral. exaltron
Exaltron - I love it! Absolutely fantastic! Is it your own work? Thanks, that means a lot, sincerely. That is actually a song from a CD I completed in '05, a hip-hop album. Since then I've moved my aesthetic focus towards more melodic stuff and I'm working on my singing technique. I think the current stuff is a better projection of my sense of life, but lyrically I think this one makes a better theme song I've been meaning to put something up about the CD, seems to do pretty well as a christmas gift. You can get the CD here or download it on itunes

Devils_Advocate
Cool, I'll probably make another plug soon, so don't worry if it slips your mind BTW where are you in Maine? I was in the Damariscotta area over the summer. Nice place. I'm in Falmouth. It's about 10 miles north of Portland, just off exit 52 or exit 53. Maine is a very nice place. I've been here about a year and a half, and I really like it. Nice country. I prefer crowded cities and imposing skyscrapers, but scenic country isn't bad. Not to get too off topic, I love the theme from the Firefly show. It's not what I would call my personal anthem (well, maybe, I still haven't decided), but it's fantastic. It's called "Ballad of Serenity":
kainscalia
For me, it would have to be the Song Of The Sword from the Zarzuela The Guest Of The Sevillian. Staunch and triumphant sword that now shines in my hand! other men and other fighters Have known your glory; I venerate the nobility of your Toledan steel Stoutly tempered in the waters of the Tagus. Shine, sword of fine steel, just like a clear moonbeam! Shine, sword! for by your light I want to find the path to my fortune! Become in conflict like lightning that neither yields nor forgives, wound as long as you have justice and reason beside you. Shine, sword! for by your light I want to find the path to my fortune! Specially sung by the god of lyric tenors, Alfredo Kraus: Edited December 15, 2008 by kainscalia

Iudicious
This is actually a really hard one for me. There's several songs that I've heard that I've loved, but I tried to narrow it down to two. I've always had a love for the Ode To Joy, and it wasn't until recently that I've really started to figure out why. I don't know how it is for other people, but for most of that song, it seems to me to have a sound of profound joy and happiness. Countless times I've come across songs about sadness and loss and hopelessness, and I've never felt that that was the way music ought to be, and the Ode to Joy represents to me everything that is counter to that kind of song. The Ode to Joy, to me, is a musical testament to man as a heroic, happy, creature, it is an acknowledgment of joy and accomplishment, both of which every man can experience. Another song I've loved for a long time is "I Want It All" by Queen. I love both how it sounds, and the lyrics. Freddie Mercury seems to very often express in his lyrics the very things that I love to hear. "It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say, Gotta find me a future, move out of my way..." and "I'm a man with a one track mind, So much to do in one life time (people do you hear me) Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all, And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all, "

Uriah
This is a perfect song for me. I heard the album "origin of symmetry" during the second Lebanon war, at the same period i was reading "The Fountainhead" and this specific song was describing the exact awesome sensation of there is more in this world. The songs' lyrics are mostly description of the nature, the way I interpret this is that this great sensation of enlightenment is so unique that one cannot share it with any other human being and the only thing left is the esthetic representation of the world. This is the main cover of the album: I paid two months' army-salary (something like 200$) for printing and framing it. Different artists were asked to paint whatever pops into their mind when they think about "origin of symmetry", those are another beautiful results: (1) (2) (3) (4)
Brent W.
From the broadway show, "Titanic: A New Musical", God Speed Titanic, Farewell, farewell, Godspeed, Titanic! From your berth glide free! As you plow the deep In your arms I'll keep. safely west may you carry me. Sail on, sail on, great ship Titanic! Cross the open sea! pray the journey sound till your port be found. Fortunes wait, sing godspeed to thee! Fortunes wait, sing godspeed to thee! I'd say a toss up between that and George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning" They took my saddle in Huston, broke my leg in Santa Fe. Lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way. I'll be lookin' for eight when they pull that gate and I hope that judge aint blind Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's on my mind. Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone. Everything that I've got is just what I've got on. I aint got a dime but what I've got is mine. I aint rich but lord I'm free. Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be. Ps, long time reader, first time poster. Edited December 17, 2009 by Brent W.
