If Obama wins I'll lay any odds you care to name Hillary will pull a Ted Kennedy on him in 2012. And she may just pull it off.

KendallJ
This came out yesterday. Quite frankly, I see it as neither here nor there. Obama will win the election irregardless of who endorses him. I think it was a very eloquent endorsement. Powell certainly highlighted the issues with the republican party. It glosses over Obama's issues as well.
JASKN
I caught Mr. Powell on CNN at work today. He's very well-spoken, and it was jarring for me to hear him speak about taxes. A voice that confident shouldn't be confused about the basics of wealth redistribution... I also wonder what he thinks socialism is, if not Obama. Capitalism Forever
Hillary will pull a Ted Kennedy on him in 2012. Hmm, let me think ... She'll take him to a drunken party so he misses the convention? ... Nah, LOL, it must be something in Senator Kennedy's arsenal of virtues that I am not yet familiar with. I give up! D'kian
Ted Kennedy ran against Jimmy Carter's reelection in 1980 Thank you. That's why Jimmy lost the election in 1980, don't you know? Just as H.W. Bush lost in 92 because Buchanan ran in the GOP pimaries, and Ford in 76 because Reagan challenged him. Seriously, a weak, unpopular president, especially in a year with a bad economy, has little chance of re-election. And of course the sharks and vultures within his own party are drawn to the blood as well. But you'll notice that neither Kennedy, nor Reagan, nor Buchanan won the nomination in the years when they challenged a sitting president. So any of you suffering from HIlalry withdrawl can look forward to 2011.
Jake_Ellison
Some conservative analyst actually had a good point: If he's not rasist, where are all the white, inexperienced liberals Colin Powell has endorsed in the past? adrock3215
I don't envy you, it must have been terrible. What brought you there? I used to be General Manager of the Domino's Pizza store that delivered to the State Department. The people who worked there were a major source of revenue for the store (and my bonus checks). Every few months or so I would go over to the building to hand out fliers, talk with people, etc. in an effort to drive sales. Sidenote: We delivered to the White House also, which was another major revenue source. We would receive 4-5 orders from the State Department daily, and 1-2 from the White House. The other major sources of revenue were the law offices along K St and the embassies on Mass Ave.

To the modern left it isn't racism if you discriminate against whites or asians on the basis of race.
Colonel Rebel
Not sure why this is such a big deal. The Bush administration did not disclose to Powell that the information they gave him nonsense when he went in front of the UN. His lifelong career serving this country was marred as a result. Plus, I think he gave some pretty strong reasons otherwise. I think the BIGGER endorsement comes from Senator Lugar (R-IN) (at least on foreign policy) and Ken Adelman. ANyone miss those? I'm not sure why these aren't worthy of discussion. And this goes without listing the several republican state congressmen/women who have come out and said Obama is clearly a more sound choice. agrippa1
Yeah, another courageous, principled decision from Colin Powell. /s My only question is: did The One promise him Defense or State? Madame Secretary's been lobbying hard for State for a couple of years, and Powell's already been in that spot. He feels all hurt and bitter over the drubbing Rumsfeld and Bushco gave him, so I suspect he'd like to try to redeem his reputation and head up the Pentagon. With "Not-at" Albright cow-towing to every two-bit despot (see Yassir Arafat), Colin Powell exhibiting his trademark decisiveness (more patent leather than Patton, I'm afraid), and The One leading us blithely down the path to economic and military enfeeblement, the next four years will be... interesting, as the Chinese say. gags
NEWS FLASH!!! Jake_Ellison
Guess that same conservative analyst must've said Lieberman was a rascist too? And that it was an equally good point? I said it was a good point, so I wish you would address me directly. The difference is that Lieberman ran on an independent ticket, and is in favor of McCain's policies on national security. Him switching parties obviously has nothing to do with Obama's race, since he let his views be known for years now. On the other hand, Colin Powel does not offer a rational explanation as to what changed that made him switch parties one month before the election. That leads me to believe that he would like to see a black man in the White House.
hunterrose
Lieberman's status as "independent" is only the result of him losing his Democratic primary - to say that he's not a member of the Democratic party is largely semantic. Powell did offer his for supporting Obama. I thought most of his argument was sensible; what did you find irrational in what he said? You might be surprised if you check out Powell's non-Republican positions on a variety of issues.

You might be surprised if you check out Powell's non-Republican positions on a variety of issues. Yes, losing the democratic primary is a change other than the race of their presidential candidate, hence there is no reason to believe he migrated to McCain based on race. He did it because he lost the democrat's support, wich is a political reason, nothing to do with race. A racist is someone who judges people based on their race, not someone who switches parties, so I don't understand why Lieberman's name came up in the discussion. Sure, Powell is a moderate, the problem is he didn't explain what in his politcal belief-system has changed since the last elections, that he felt the need to come out for a liberal, while before he was consistently in favor of conservatives. In fact if anythign, McCain is far more to the center than Bush, while Obama is far more to the left than Kerry or the Gore/Lieberman team in 2000. Did Powell turn into a liberal in a couple of months, or is he suddenly supporting a liberal because he's black?
