I don't see any indication it would even be done in a particularly new way here. (And frankly turning it into a didactic exercise on Objectivist politics wouldn't be sufficient to make it new; it would just make it look like we are retelling Robinson with an agenda.)

As for major plot developments I think all we really need to settle on is the general direction and as long as the stories push the plot in the agreed direction it's all good.

I don't think there should be "the" plot--every story should have its own, distinct plot, with the *setting* tying them together, not an overall meta-plot. If you try to do meta-plot, you'll wind up screwing yourself over creatively.
