Grames
The Profit Motive Behind The Sexualization Of Tween Girls Love this headline. People act stupidly and the problem is identified as their freedom to act. The money comment that cashes in on the premise behind the headline is right here: Let's face up to the fact that this type of marketing was given legitimacy when we allowed governments and their economic advisers to tell us that the free operation of market forces is good for society. The mass of the comments pick out the parents for blame, despite the headline. There is something to be said here about social leadership, which I am not yet able to name. The headline and the reaction it begs for is a similar mechanism to the MTV led culture that sexualizes young girls.
sanjavalen
It's an interesting premise - that marketers are responsible for what they do, but parents are by no means responsible for what their children wear and how they act. Children grow into adults, and of course have free will; so even an excellent set of parents (especially in this cultural sewer) can raise a child who ends up being a poor human being. But so long as they are under your authority, it is a simple enough matter to forbid them to dress in that manner.
Zip
An unfree market will never compensate for crappy parenting.
Tenure
But so long as they are under your authority, it is a simple enough matter to forbid them to dress in that manner. Not least of all because you're the one buying them these damn clothes! What it really translates to is: "The parents are brainwashed by the marketing and unable to resist buying this stuff for the kids."
