sanjavalen
No one has heard the standard complaint of how terrible it is that they make "so much money" "just for acting/playing a game"? Especially when more "socially important" people like teachers or welfare workers make so little?
L-C
No one has heard the standard complaint of how terrible it is that they make "so much money" "just for acting/playing a game"? Especially when more "socially important" people like teachers or welfare workers make so little? Sure, but that doesn't stop people from watching. spaceplayer
It seems that the pro-regulation crowd is not being honest with themselves; they hyperventilate over executive bonus pay yet are indifferent to Hugh Jackman raking in millions for prancing about in a bad haircut. My theory: Escapism, by its reality-avoidant nature, may be the only product that does not inspire envy. Thoughts? Mr. A, I haven't done a systematic survey, but I'd say it's because the Hollywood elite knows how to put on a good show. Michael Jackson gave away his earnings from the VICTORY tour to charity because of a letter from a young fan calling him "selfish." I think the "Stars" simply know to play the game and give away enough to charity to present themselves differently, and thus, be "spared" the wrath of the populace for the millions. Ever notice that when a celebrity is on a game show, the money always goes to charity? Like good little performers, celebrities are adept at "acting" like they aren't selfish little prigs, unlike those greedy politicians...why do you think politicans get actors to spread the socialist agenda? Capitalism Forever
Why are actors and athletes spared from populist wrath? Again, rephrasing the question a little makes the answer obvious: Why are celebrities spared from populist wrath? Or to make it even more obvious, consider who it is that turns celebrities into celebrities, and who it is that fuels the populist wrath: Why are the media's favorites spared from the media's wrath?
