Pretty much the only downside is that that area doesn't have any resources

Do you know if the resources can be discovered? On the 'Social stats' page under the 'Info' tab, if you click 'Details' for 'Svalbard & Jan Mayen', it says:

There are no discovered resources in this region yet.

P.S. It's OK to use this forum to discuss technicalities of the game, right?

For the first question I hope some can be...

As for the second question I like the idea of talking in here... Keeps the spies clueless :dough:

I was looking in the same place and I noticed this...

Resistance War

You cannot start a resistance war in this region because it already belongs to its original owner country.

Does this mean we have to move somewhere where we can start a war of Resistance/independence?

Is it necessary Objectively? Seems like you'd want to move someplace that you wouldn't need to start a war.

Perhaps not. If it could be done through regular political channels. However... if you go to the forum and see the statist crap most people are spewing, and read the news about "Norway donating to the Norwegian bank" and such I don't hold out much hope.

I'd love to be wrong though.

Yeah, I saw that too. It is "donating", but I can't say that I know more details.

Moldavia is kinda cool, although it's a small country with only grain resources. But it has 380 people total, and one area only has 20ish. It also already has very low taxes, which would make it easier for us to get rich. I think as long as we import goods and sell the manufactured stuff the actual resources shouldnt matter too much.

Alternatively, we can go for thailand which is currently occupied by Malaysia, and try to free some of the provinces. However, that country has 800 people just by itself, and if it has any allies I really doubt we could fight and free a province there. Also, their taxes are worse, but they do have very good resources...

Maybe try for Moldavia and see if we can make a difference there by voting and getting some companies going? How does everyone feel about that?

Moldavia sounds nice enough, since grain resorces are the most important ones in the game AND starting with the small taxes is quite good too. But no matter what country we choose to move to, we must first become strong enough to be economically and politically active.

Absolutely. Right now I'm working for sustenance only! And I can't resign from my level one Job until 1400 server time today!

Actually, the job quality depends on your skills in the specific area. Each day you work, your skills in a specific area will increase.

Right now I work at a food manufacturing job which requires my manufacturing skill to be 1. I get 2.21 LTL as my salary and consume Q2 food for 1.89 LTL for my survival. So I'm slowly making money. Can't wait moving to a new location then I get 14.50 LTL though! :)

I was thinking that we should all be specializing in our professions so that when we strike out on our own eventually that we have all the skills required to make everything that is needed.

So as far as I can see we need

The Gatherers - those that extract the raw minerals/products to make everything

The Builders - to make houses hospitals and defences

The Producers - to turn raw materials into products

Politicians - To run for congress and run political parties

Soldiers - to fight (is this everyone? Is there such a thing as a professional soldier in the game?)

Media - to gather support and attract like minded people from in game

I am a Gatherer... What is everyone else doing?

We're in Norway right now, Jan Mayen region. Make sure to click someone's invite link to get some extra gold rewards for the team =P

As far as productivity goes, you can actually make an organization that owns a lot of the companies; you can have 1 of each type of company (grain, food, metal, houses, etc), so that's really nice. One thing we do need is enough work force, but as an owner you dont actually need to work in the place yourself.

But yeah, I also got a raise today. Some people seem pretty good about giving you raises to keep their workers! :)

I think in the longer term moving to Moldavia would be cool because of the taxes and because it's so small; and we can always import basic resources and turn it into more valuable items. A country doesnt really need to produce all its basic resources, after all :)

Having one company for each one of us is nice enough though.

Same here. Should get another one in two days. I am the producer (weapons). Although all the difference there actually is is the sphere you're occupied in. The one can be both a worker, a soldier and a journalist.

heard anything of export licenses, though? I think those are needed to get the income out of the trade.

Some advices for the beginning? Worked and trained today, I guess there is not really more to do for the time being?

I am a beginner too, but I noticed that you haven't uploaded your eRepublik avatar yet. Doing that will give you 2 experience points! I know that from Plato's Tutorial, which could be found under the 'Info' tab.

I think we should have one or two people assess the other political parties in Norway and meantime everyone else work on establishing a political party of our own (this will take gold). Does anybody speak Norwegian?

As far as I can see our opposition in Norway is mostly socialist liberals. As far as making our own country, I believe our options are to conquer Norway politically and have that be our nation or find some other country to conquer politically. I don't know if we can establish our own state.

It looks like at least some of the people in Norway speak English.

Is that correct?

http://www.erepublik.com/en/party/teknokratene-711/1

That's the local party that has the most members..."center, libertarian"

http://www.erepublik.com/en/party/gullpartiet-138/1

Number two in membership is "center-right, libertarian". The president is from this party. Next presidential election is in 27 days.

Does seem to be a good amount of taxation going on though. Not sure if the current government is doing anything about that.
