Because it constitutes an initiation of force by the government against the scientists. You know, we Objectivists place the blame the initiators of force, and not on their victims. Rather than blaming the scientists for preferring to continue pursing science instead of starving to death or seeking another job which the government has not appropriated (yet), we blame those people who are actually responsible for the situation. Furthermore, how does the fact that someone does not advocate taxation give him the right to accept coerced funds If somebody steals your money, don't you have a right to get it back?
