I was unsettled by this name, and other members of the committee agreed with me,” said Hélène Grand-Maître, speaking in French. “We should make sure that we are politically correct in this designation.”

Board member Adel Ayad said the name was troubling for its “very tight definition” and for the presence of the word “communism” in the title, as Canada has a communist party.

This is depressing...but on a brighter note... Holly $%@# you are in Ottawa!!!! I was beginning to fear that I was the only O'ist in the City!

I'd say more aspiring O'ist at the moment. I still have quite a way to go before I feel I can deserve to use the term.

If you're looking for objectivists in Ottawa I suggest you read David McGruer's monthly column in the Orleans Star. He was the Ottawa-Orleans candidate for the Ontario Freedom party (Paul's party) in the last provincial election.

Back on topic: I'd like to know where they wanted to put it if the NCC is involved. A monument like that would probably be better placed on private land.

Thanks for the link.

Ideally of course it should be private money and private property and then those that would complain about it not being politically correct could be rightfully told to go pound sand by the owner of the land and the contributors to the project. I never heard about where this was supposed to go. I would imagine it would be in one of the Parks downtown
