If anything, they're even more fascist economically than politically (if we use politically in the narrower sense, of the political process, rather than everything that has to do with government, including their control over the economy. At least politically, there's a push for democracy, both from inside and outside. Economically, Putin has free reign over private enterprise, and Western Europe deals with him like it's perfectly natural.

I've heard they want to privatise many of their core companies that are still publicly run.

I guess in the economic downturn they figure to make some quick cash. After all, you can always just put the owners in jail, and take those companies back in a few years. How's that privatization coming along, is anyone actually investing in Russia right now?
