Must it not have ludic value in order to be considered art? Music, therefore, has no ludic value? Then, is it not an art?

What is the standard by which you are differencing hre? Is therefore "Oops, I did it again" by Britney Spears art, since Le Nozze Di Figaro or Der GroBe Fugue Op 13 are art? Is all music art, simply because it is music? You need to differentiate between examples that only have ludic value as its goal, and examples that seek an artistic statement with the added benefit of ludic value in the equation.

"Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value judgements".

Well, that's exactly what a bullfight is to me!. I look forward your comments!

According to the quotation, the artist (the bullfighter) must therefore be making value judgments in the application of his art. I can't help but wonder what that bullfighter's values are that he feels he can torture a crippled, enraged animal before a roaring crowd, surrounded by armed bodyguards ready to step in an kill the bull at the first sign of trouble.

If he is displaying value judgments, they are hardly objective.

I believe it's against board policy to post in languages other than English.

Since the poster was posting in English but having some trouble expressing certain things and has a willing translater I think it is allowable being that the conversation is not frivolous. The forum rules do address the postings of persons who have english as a second language and some reasonable tolerance seems indicated.

Thanks to Kainscalia for the translations, btw.

There is no requirement they be objective metaphysical value judgements, just that they be metaphysical value judgements.

You are correct Grames. The original quotation does not add such a qualifier. I added that myself, stating that in my opinion, the bullfighter's values applied to this activity, assuming there are any, are not objective. I did not claim it invalidates the activity as an art-form because it is not objective.

Killing an animal for achieving a value (food, art, ...) is correct acording to Objetivism.

In traditional Spanish bull fighting after the bull is dead they always have a butcher on hand to carve up the bull and they sell it to the people who take it home to cook it up the same day. So the bull doe s get ate after the event. :pimp:

Well that settles it then. A fancy butcher's shop is definitely not art.
