SapereAude
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/11/peter-king-strict-gun-control_n_807323.html Amidst all the knee jerk reactionary new gun grabs floating about in the wake of the AZ shootings this may be the most telling of all: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/11/peter-king-strict-gun-control_n_807323.html Peter King is proposing that no one (other than govt security/police/etc) be able to have a firearm within 1000ft of an elected official. Of old, in the days of kings, queens, despots and tyranny not being able to have a weapon in the presence of your betters was a given. Can we just dispense with the fallacy that the government have not declared themselves our masters? In the moments after the shooting politicians were quick to make statements about how shooting an elected official was particularly heinous. How can one not take their meaning to be that their lives are more valuable than the citizens they are supposed to be "serving"?
2046
And now Robert Brady plans to ban "violent symbols and language." http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/live-blog-latest-developments-on-arizona-shooting/?hp#bill-to-ban-crosshairs Representative Bob Brady of Pennsylvania told The Caucus he plans to introduce a bill that would ban symbols like that now-infamous campaign cross-hair map. "You can't threaten the president with a bull's-eye or a cross hair," Mr. Brady, a Democrat, said, and his measure would make it a crime to do so to a member of Congress or federal employee, as well. On Sunday, Brady told CNN that he plans to introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or violent against a federal official. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/congress-reacts-dems-propose-gun-restrictions-ban-on-threatening-language-or-symbols/
