This way, they can come up with a (barely) plausible explanation for "anomalies" in their model, such as the Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm Period. To be fair to the article's author, he didn't advocate anything, he more or less impartially reported the so-called results of the so-called research. He may even be taking a sly dig at both 'sides'!
