FrolicsomeQuipster
I just watched it. Did anyone else like the part where they praised the Once Ler? And even if those trees take thirty years to grow replanting them would still work just as well. Without explaining away the rest of the seeds there would just eventually spout more truffula trees. bluecherry
Yeah, the thing I always got from The Lorax was, "See? This is why you need to renew your rare resources whenever possible. Look at what happened to this fool who failed to plan ahead - he's out of business now."
FrolicsomeQuipster
Yeah, the thing I always got from The Lorax was, "See? I also really wished they'd make songs of praise for real businessmen. "Everybody needs a Thneed" fits Jobs like a glove he made products people didn't even know the'd love. epistemologue
He accepted unearned guilt. He was running a business, evidently on his own property, and doing very well. Why should he give a damn about some whiny mooching Lorax? His biggest mistake was letting that guy get to him, since apparently when his business closed he spent his years worrying and letting everything fall apart instead of reinvesting his gains into new opportunities and pursuing greater success. And to seal his total moral corruption, he righteously gives the seed to some stranger saying that they should be very diligent about doing everything they can do make the place more favorable for the Lorax and all his parasitic friends, at the expense of that stranger's own pursuit of success. He also charged too little if he had so many buyers that he burned through his supply like that.
Ninth Doctor
I had to sit through this at least 20 times in elementary school. They probably don't play it anymore, there's too much smoking in it. That plus the 1970's style soundtrack. He was written by the guy who wanted to speak for the trees the writer didn't have or know the morality that the character needs.
