Rearden I could'nt agree more. I just love bands who put down the US on how its crupt by money and then you look and the source of all they're money/wealth is from the US. This is why lately I have been listening to more and more Instrumental music, so I dont have to hear people tell me what to think, but even then you stumble upon the website of one of these Instrumental groups and find that they believe just as much in Socialism as "System of a Down" :)

Rush Limbaugh - because he is a "Christian" Conservative, has lots of listeners, and ever since the last election has given religion and Christian values all the credit for the win. He is anti-mind and has a lot of reach.

My bf has a shirt with a drawing of a hand flipping the bird and next to it, a hand with the index pointing out at the viewer. Maybe we can wear those?

We should counter the Che t-shirt movement by wearing Ayn Rand t-shirts.  At least the commercialism actually agrees with her politics.

I've actually thought about making something like that. Here's a rough draft of what I had in mind. Though I believe that's a copyrighted image.

It would be funny if the shirt actually caught on, but then again it would be bad for Objectivism having a bunch of teenagers wearing Ayn Rand shirts not knowing who she is or caring to find out. Still that would be a sight too see.

I have one of those shirts with Che's picture on it that says, "Commies aren't cool". At my school, all the Cuban and Columbian kids ask me why I'm "hating" on Cheggy! :D:)

Oh, and the instrumentalists from RATM started a new band called Audioslave with Chris Cornell, so don't think they're dead just yet.

P.S. I own both SOAD and RATM albums. They are good albums to rock out to so don't put those bands completely down! Just consider Doestoevsky's writings for example. Yeah, the theme of Crime and Punishment isn't that great, but his style is fantastic.

Who are these people??? I'm Cuban, and I honestly can't say I know any Cubans now living in the US that don't be hatin' on Cheggy.

Now I find Noam Chomsky invaluable.  He speaks on so many topics that often escape major media attention.  While I don’t agree with all of his conclusions, I use his books as launch pads from which I can do my own research.  What I like best about his work is that he cites his sources.  This makes it much easier for me to learn the context in which something was said or written.  This way I can draw my own conclusions.

Hmmm... An interesting sentiment there.

Would you also use the Unabomber's Manifesto as a "launch pad" to do your own research on the Industrial Revolution and the rise of technology in Western civilization?

I'm pretty certain you don't know them personally. The Portuguese teacher at my school (He's Cuban/Cape Verdean) always talks about Cheggy as if he's God. The Geometry teacher, "Carlos", is the same way. These are adults!

If she has not been mentioned already Oprah Winfrey for what are obvious reasons.

I must be missing something because I don't see any reason to hate Oprah Winfrey. I actually admire her. She made it in a world where people consistently told her she wouldn't because she was a black woman and because the world is run by white men. She wasn't afraid to take chances and, as a result, has created an enormous amount of wealth and is currently a billionaire.

I do admire Oprah's achievements, however the almost cult like worship of her by her "followers" which she does not attempt to downplay is what bothers me. Her wealth is not a problem, but just the fact that one achieves wealth is not the end game. I think though she made it on her own, she now wants to be the ultimate altruist, attempting to solve the problem of Africans and others who should change their destructive life patterns and do as she did. Her attempt to help them only stunts that impulse which lies deep in the human spirit.

I never imagined I would defend Oprah some day (based on perhaps 60 minutes of viewing over my lifetime)...

Sure, she has accepted much of the dominant philosophy. Many rich, high-achievers -- Gates, Buffett -- have done so too. On the whole, however, I think her message tends more to the positive. Along the lines of: don't fuss, get off your xxx and do something about your life... break out of your negative patterns...

I wouldn't even rate her "below average" among her cohorts of famous TV folk.

I would agree that she is better than her fellow TV talk host, however the competition is pretty pathetic.

-Al Franken

-Bill Maher

really? I haven't seen Bill Maher since 2001 but I don't remember (besides being an ass) him being that despicable. I"m not disagreeing with you I'd just like to hear your opinion on why he's on the list of the "most" despicable.

The Che sirt thing just makes me laugh when I see it. "booooo capitalism. Ooh a t-shirt with Che on it that costs $30--I'll take it".........I think the very fact that they payed good american money for their Che shirts or Che posters undermines their movement.

I took Portuguese in college for 3 years-- and thank Bob that I wasn't good enough to understand everything she was saying because she was constantly raging on America and americans. She'd ask us to do these writing assignments in portuguese like "describe the UN and my opinion of it" and I'm like --one page and in portuguese?! Lady are you crazy? God I'm so glad that's over!

Try watching her show some. I tuned in one time... the first and LAST time... and it was DRIPPING with altruism. It was in fact the most open and direct browbeating of altruism I had seen outside of a church sermon... and she was a lot worse, i.e. more demanding and insistant, than any priest I had ever heard. Priests, at least the ones I have heard in my life, at least asked or pleaded with me... they didn't insist upon sacrifice the way I saw Oprah do.

My wife also saw ONE episode of the show and she tells me that it was a dripping emotionalist cry-fest targeted to cloud the mind and tug at the heartstrings. It was contrived and insulting, and the message was, you guessed it, to be more altruistic.

Also, isn't there a Oprah/Hillary connection somewhere?

Like others, I admire her ability to create wealth--and her giving doesn't bother me. It is the attention she gives to the most horrific things and her racist attitude. I had no problems with the O (didn't really think about her at all) until some award shoe where I saw her giving the black power fist to Chris Rock (I think). Uh. After that, everything I heard about her made be dislike her or rather lose respect for her more and more.

Oprah made her money peddling altruism. Not only is that not worthy of our respect, but its worthy of our loathing. Thus she should be on the list. I might compare her to Gail Wynand in The Fountainhead. Any disagreements?

No, you misunderstand. I am saying that she made her money WITH altruism. She isn't just some businessman who gives to charity: her business IS altruism. (Just like erik said) YEAAACH!
