Mnrchst
http://www.aynrandst..._2bregister.pdf In this essay, a guy named Bryan Register argues that Rand confused concepts with words. He concludes that a concept is better defined as an ability. Pretty good essay. I'm not sure if I agree with him, but he seems to be on the right track. Whadda y'all think? Nicky
Don't know because I can't get the link to work. It's a link to a pdf document. You need to download it (Save as), and open it in a PDF viewer. Did Rand confuse concepts with words? No, she did not. tadmjones
I simply do not understand what the essay writer was trying to say. The line of reasoning employed seems to imply that consciousness is omniscient. That concepts are not the result of mental integrations but 'things' in consciouness that provide meaning to entities. A la inate ideas that point to some platonic universal understanding in a precognitive sense. Concepts are mental integrations that have as their referents existents. Words are tags that allow one to focus ones consciousness on specific concepts. i believe the writer does not understand what Rand was 'talking about'.
