William O
I was in the chat room the other night and I noticed that there are constantly Guest users coming and going, usually without saying anything. Are these all just random people who step into the chat room without having an account on the site?
JASKN
I noticed the same thing, pretty much from day one after switching to Invision's chat service. A guest has never replied to me, so I wondered if they might be bots. But, an Invision forum search didn't yield any info about chat guests possibly being bots. Guest permission for chat can be withdrawn. Has anyone ever gotten a guest to respond in the chat? If not, I'll change the permission so that only users can use the chat. I've had a conversation with a Guest twice. One time it was a person who had questions about Objectivism but did not have an account on the forum itself. William O
I could be wrong about this, but Guests also seem to come and go much more frequently on weekend evenings.
Plasmatic
Personally I think that both "anonymous" and "guest" are bad ideas. One can simply log out if they want to surf without being bothered. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for a non admin-mod to do any forum activity in this way.
