Boydstun
Forthcoming this year: Quote Questioning Ayn Rand: Subjectivity, Political Economy, and the Arts offers a sustained academic critique of Ayn Rand’s works and her wider Objectivist philosophy. While Rand’s texts are often dismissed out of hand by those hostile to the ideology promoted within them, these essays argue instead that they need to be taken seriously and analysed in detail. Rand’s influential worldview does not tolerate uncertainty, relying as it does upon a notion of truth untroubled by doubt. In contrast, the contributors to this volume argue that any progressive response to Rand should resist the dubious comforts of a position of ethical or aesthetic purity, even as they challenge the reductive individualistic ideology promoted within her writing. Drawing on a range of sources and approaches from Psychoanalysis to The Gold Standard and from Hannah Arendt to Spiderman, these essays consider Rand’s works in the context of wider political, economic, and philosophical debates. https://www.palgrave.com/gp/book/9783030530723 Edited July 13, 2020 by Boydstun
Reidy
I'm skeptical of anybody who writes about "Objectivist economics", but maybe the editor had nothing to do with the publisher's blurb. We'll see. Somebody will, but, at those prices, not I.
2046
Not a promising abstract.
Boydstun
One of the contributors is Lisa Downing who authored Selfish Women last year. (Scroll down at the link.) This thread so far is all I know so far about this new book due out in late November. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PS - That Lisa Downing is philosopher at Birmingham, England, not the philosopher Lisa Downing at Ohio State. Eiuol
I found some more information from the editor of the book: https://aynrandfromtheleft.wordpress.com/2020/07/ Most of it seems like really dense literary analysis with plenty of psychoanalytic methods. 2046
So, garbage. Shame. This project possibly could have been extremely beneficial if some decent left-wing analytic philosophers attempted it.
Reidy
Looks like it might be interesting. Let me know what you think or, better yet, give me a copy for Christmas.
