Press bias.

Media bias has been around for a long time, and Ayn Rand was aware of it.

In her essay "'Extermism', or the Art of Smearing", as published in the September, 1964 issue of The Objectivist Newsletter, she discussed press bias at some length.  (The version of this essay reprinted in Capitalism, the Unknown Ideal omitted much of this discussion.)

There were at least two articles in The Objectivist about press bias.  "Airwave Pollution" in the October, 1969 issue dealt first with TV drama and then with TV news.  "Who Programs the Programmers" in the March and April, 1970 issues gave a lengthy case study of TV news bias, with some commentary.  (The author of both these articles was named Susan Ludel.)

Contrary to boomercon mythos, that's not "bias." There's a difference between having bias and having an agenda. They systematically misunderstand the nature and function of the media and are thus confused, every five minutes, why so much "bias" exists.

But shouldn't we define media first? Is this forum media? Is TV and Newspapers media? Or does media include Facebook et. al.?

With Covid, the downtown square has turned into a zoom meeting and attacks on free speech include attacks on the medium too. For instance does Facebook and Twitter have a bias toward individualism, or truth telling, simply because of their "being there"?
