Free Thinker
For one who isn't well aquainted with Vermeer's work, this movie (however embelished/false) was wonderfully done. Certain themes of individualism could be traced through the movie. Vermeer was protryed as a valuer; a "Randian" hero. PS - For those who have seen it, is the love story historically accurate? The movie was beautifully photographed and effectively captured Vermeer's palette and use of light. I only wish the director had been able to get Scarlett Johansen to do something more than sit and gape with her mouth open. As for the authenticity of the plot, the only thing in the movie that was definitely true is that Vermeer was a Dutch painter. Everything else was fable. The source of the film was a best selling novel. Edited November 27, 2005 by Free Thinker

Every shot could be frozen to make a portrait. Edited November 27, 2005 by Free Thinker
