exaltron
Just checking out the new geographical/chronological trend tracking feature on Google. I put in "Ayn Rand" and "Objectivism" and got some interesting results: City with largest number of searches for both "Ayn Rand" and "Objectivism": Denver (?!) India was second highest in searches for "Ayn Rand", and highest in searches for "Objectivism". Delhi and Mumbai were ranked 7th and 9th in the world in searches for "Ayn Rand". Anybody want to move to India and start an Objectivist enclave? I hear those people are pretty good at computer stuff... Eternal
I think this is directly related to the population and computer density of those areas. The more people in a given city with internet access, the more likely you are to come accross a given keyword... I just did a search trend on "sex" and Delhi comes up as #1... I think there was an article on Atlasphere regarding an Indian actress or anchor woman that was an Ayn Rand fan, and it mentioned other Indian woman that admired her as well. It doesn't really surprise me. As they become technologically advanced, it would seem logical that a philosophy that would help them continue to break free from caste systems and religion. And all that altruism that is shoved down their throats in the poorest parts of their country. Good for India!
Hal
sounds like it would be more useful if they divided their figures by population and gave you the ratio of people. They could limit results to cities over a certain population to avoid the top 10 returns being villages or whatever.

It has 1/16 the population of NYC, and presumably less internet users as well.

DavidV
It's interesting how various topics spike in the news and compare them to others: For example, Schiavo vs the John Paul 2 http://www.google.com/trends?q=Terri+Schia...ate=all&geo=all SARS vs Bird Flu: (bird flu is on the wane, thank god) http://www.google.com/trends?q=SARS%2C+bir...ate=all&geo=all Capitalism vs Socialism vs Communism: http://www.google.com/trends?q=capitalism%...ate=all&geo=all
DavidOdden
Try multi-term searches (warning: order matters!). So this is different from this.

Actually, I've noticed on Orkut there is a huge concentration of Desi's on the various Rand and Objectivist groups. Considering the concentration of Brazilians and Americans, it's a bit lopsided. Yeah, and Denver seems to come up 2nd on other searches as well. Guess it's not as conclusive as I thought. I do think this type of tool is gonna be really useful for marketing, etc. Actually, I've noticed on Orkut there is a huge concentration of Desi's on the various Rand and Objectivist groups. Considering the concentration of Brazilians and Americans, it's a bit lopsided. Yeah, the Atlasphere has a pretty high concentration of Desis as well. I think there definitely is a cultural element there that hungers for objectivism. To me it seems while they have the mystical element, there isn't the strength of the intellectual left over there (aside from a few emotionalist chomskyites like Arundhati Roy).
