RadCap
I was watching BBC America earlier and they broadcast a commercial I just couldn't believe. It apparently is part of their new "Man on the Street" commercials which are aimed at giving it a new, environmentally 'friendly' image. Apparently gone is BP (British Petroleum) and now there is bp (Beyond Petroleum - with the lower case intended to be less 'Imperial'). In this commercial, a couple with a small child is asked: "So what would you say to an oil company?" "I'd say: Your products are a necessary evil, but we all use it, we all partake in it, we all enjoy it." You KNOW things are bad when a company creates an add and calls THEMSELVES -EVIL- (necessary or not).
Bearster
And the protagonist says "I enjoy evil." Yuck!

I usually bypass most "horror" stories, having seen more than my fair share of them throughout the years, but I must say that this one is virtually beyond belief. I suppose the only good part is that the commercial was made primarily for a British audience. If that commercial aired on CBS I think I might go back to using roller skates! Capitalism Forever
The German guy I had lunch with today told me that Germany's Minister of Health had objected to chocolate makers increasing the sizes of chocolate bars without increasing the price. RadCap
Stephen Actually this is supposedly an international campaign. The ad I saw was apparently FOR the US market. On their US web site, they say the commercial would be seen on networks such as CNN etc. Their austrailian site has similar commercials. And I believe their UK site has them as well. So you might actually have to get those roller skates.

Concerto of Atlantis
ALthough I don't think that that particular ad has been screened in Australia yet, they have been referring to themselves as 'beyond petroleum' for a while. RadCap
I *just* saw another one of 'beyond petroleum's' man on the street, "Its's a start" ads - on FOXNEWS of all places!

AshRyan
Yikes! Anyone want to buy a shiny red corvette convertible? Well, since no one else has bitten yet... I'll trade you for a shiny red pair of roller skates.
stephen_speicher
Well, since no one else has bitten yet... I'll trade you for a shiny red pair of roller skates. What size are the skates? Do they take regular, or premium?
AshRyan
...Do they take regular, or premium? Diesel.
stephen_speicher
Diesel. Wow! The skates come with Vin Diesel! That's impressive. But, what if he wants to make a movie, just when I want to use the skates?
AshRyan
Okay, now this has just gotten too absurd to carry on any further. But thanks for a few laughs.
lidryn
Yes, it's an ancient thread (in Internet time)... The thread title is what I'm after. Â Consider this: http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=226686 Â I put up some other Karl Denninger ranting somewhere else, strike-related I think, but this is... different. So there it is. And I'd say-you are unnecessary evil and I don't want you as my customer.
