Why are you so concerned with finding your audience? are you implying that if your audience didn't exist you wouldn't write at all?
Interesting question. As a thought experiment, suppose Roark knew with great certainity that he would never actually design a real building. He could imagine client-requirements and draw and design for himself, but would never actually get a commission. Now, contrast this to a situation where Roark finds himself surrounded by people who enjoy his work and want him to build their homes and offices. Would he have an equal amount of enthusiasm about pretending to design buildings (in the first scenario) and actually doing so (in the second)?
