JASKN
The 2006 movie award hype is now done and through, but Objectivists have yet to weigh in! What were your favorite movies in 2006? For quick reference, here is a list of every major release for last year. Favorite: Casino Royale (awesome movie, through and through!) Great movies: The Departed (minus the flaunted nihilism) Blood Diamond (good characters with good 'sense of life') The Descent (thriller horror, what a ride!) Movies I also liked: Monster House (visually appealing 'kids' movie) Mission Impossible: III (good action, engaging plot) The Prestige (entertaining) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (entertaining, interesting effects) Edited March 5, 2007 by JASKN
softwareNerd
Thanks for reminding me about Casino Royale. I haven't seen any that you listed, but the one that comes to mind is The Illusionist. That was fun.
KendallJ
For me it was Blood Diamond, Casino Royale, and The Pursuit of Happyness. Oh, and I liked Fly Boys. Didn't think it was great, but enjoyed it. I didn't watch Pride and Prejudice until this year. Does that count? BaseballGenius
Annapolis The Gridiron Gang I highly recommend both of them.
RationalBiker
I'd have to say The Pursuit of Happyness and Casino Royale as well.
Hakarmaskannar
I also rate Casino Royale as probably the best movie of the year. I missed Pursuit of Happyness at the cinema but will be buying it when it is available on (non-pirated ) DVD. Casino Royale really raised the bar for espionage/action movies (which it had to, I suppose, with Jason Bourne's recent triumphs) but I couldn't believe how well they had kept to essentials and produced a well-scripted (and acted) plot-driven action movie.
