Interesting that China, a former communist country, has the highest percentage of pro-market people in the world.

I wonder if they would be so supportive if all the ramifications of a free market were made clear ie. no social safety net-type stuff.

And I'm not sure China can really be called a "former" communist country....

That's part of their bigger plan, to confuse people. Is Russia a former communist country? Belarus? The operative principle, as I understand it, which sets the Chicom and their neighboring ilk apart from Russia, Belarus and other formerly commie presently quasi-commie dictatorships is the principle that the political party in Red China is, still and by law, the commie party.

It's communist by name only though - there is very little commune-alistic about it. It's now just a mixed-economy with a totalitarian regime.

I thought the same too, after I posted.

I wonder what the situation was during the early and middle 20th century when socialism was the "craze" among everyone? I wonder did they even have an idea of free markets?

I would also be curious what the global situation will be in a few decades time.
