utabintarbo
Interesting that China, a former communist country, has the highest percentage of pro-market people in the world. I wonder if they would be so supportive if all the ramifications of a free market were made clear ie. no social safety net-type stuff. And I'm not sure China can really be called a "former" communist country....
DavidOdden
And I'm not sure China can really be called a "former" communist country.... That's part of their bigger plan, to confuse people. Is Russia a former communist country? Belarus? The operative principle, as I understand it, which sets the Chicom and their neighboring ilk apart from Russia, Belarus and other formerly commie presently quasi-commie dictatorships is the principle that the political party in Red China is, still and by law, the commie party. DavidV
the political party in Red China is, still and by law, the commie party. It's communist by name only though - there is very little commune-alistic about it. It's now just a mixed-economy with a totalitarian regime. Whoisjohngalt
And I'm not sure China can really be called a "former" communist country.... I thought the same too, after I posted. I wonder what the situation was during the early and middle 20th century when socialism was the "craze" among everyone? I wonder did they even have an idea of free markets? I would also be curious what the global situation will be in a few decades time.
