DarkWaters
I just wanted to start a thread to vent how I am particularly disgusted how the minimum wage hike got laced into the recently passed Iraq War Funding Bill. It is already irritating that the Democrats to relentlessly propose legislation to raise the minimum wage in order to superficially "win one for the Democrats." However, the shameless act of stapling this provision onto an otherwise overwhelmingly popular bill on an unentirely unrelated subject has really infuriated me. Perhaps a line-item veto may not be such a bad idea, if some necessary precautions are also put into place (such as a procedure where Congress can override these vetoes given enough support.) rickthepick
A minimum wage hike seems to be a lesser threat than funding an unconstitutional and unprovoked(Iraq) war. Minimum wage is not good for the economy, but spending $3 trillion on trying to build a democracy in a tribal minded culture is economic suicide. A minimum wage hike will not increase the earning power of the most Americans. It is definitely a form of theft from employers and will increase inflation. The sacrifice of American military lives in a futile attempt to build a government in a savage foreign country is negligent manslaughter at the least. I would also like to point out that we may have to borrow more funds from the Chinese, or print more money in order to actually pay for the war-which will also increase inflation at a much faster rate than stealing from employers and giving it out to the few who actually earn minimum wage. On the surface Iraq war funding and a minimum wage hike don't seem to belong on the same bill, but I argue that a line item veto is not necessary(haven't executive powers been expanded past the constitution enough-I'm sure the next socialist-dem. president will appreciate that), because theft and murder are very similar. Perhaps the bill should only be renamed to "The Manslaughter Funding for Robin Hood Bill".
