John McVey
Remember how the Iranian Revolutionary Guard boarded a vessel and kidnapped 15 Royal Navy sailors? It turns out that they tried that same stunt a little earlier against Royal Australian Navy sailors, but were solidly rebuffed by men with guns who were very willing to use them. Who, in future, do you think the IRG goons - or any other bunch of thugs - are more likely to manufacture grievances with? A source for the UK military said they hadn't "taken sufficient account of the lessons of the Australian encounter." It's worse than that. They haven't taken account of the lessons from ALL instances of appeasement and refusals to identify the evil as evil. They haven't taken account of the fact that those who have no right to life have no right to values and will not keep them. They haven't taken into account the vital practical need for philosophy and a moral code, and sooner or later that failure is going to cost people their lives.
