The women in the picture looks like she's being double penetrated on the dance floor, and this was posted on a very public website, and all anyone can comment on is the odd angle of the man in the pictures foot...

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?

I look them up and all the people in the photo and making the comments are identified as being "Christian" and "Conserative" ...

Chill. It's just a picture. Even the comments aren't really that bad.

I mean, no reason to get worked up over a picture of some stranger on the internet - unless the girl is your girlfriend or sister or something.

She's not... right?

Nope, unrelated. One of the girls who left a comment recently added me as a friend, so I was looking through her pictures because I had no idea who she was, that's when I found this.

It's just the principle of the matter. It reminds of Rand's "moral blank check" concept.

Well, I also have to add that the guys in the picture were talking about how dancing with them is the "hilight of dat bitchs life" (spelling errors intact). It's depressing because there are tons of pictures of these despicable bozos with tons of different girls.

I don't know what’s worse, that guys like this exist or that women find them attractive. <_<

Not only do they exist, there are millions of guys like that out there. Go to any frat party and you will find dozens. If anything though their only fault as far as we can tell from the picture is that they have a crass sense of humor. I'm not sure if this really qualifies as a moral issue.

Besides, I don't know if many girls think that that sort of behavior is attractive. Certainly no girls I know. But different strokes for different folks I guess.

Personally, I've never been attracted to those types of guys. I want to be respected and the bottom line of that photo is that the woman is not commanding respect. Drunk guys will try to get away with just about anything women will let them get away with, so in my opinion, the woman is the main problem in the photo. (Or maybe I'm just being hard on her because I'm a woman?)

I don't suppose the consumption of copious amounts of alcohol has anything to do with it....

That was my next though...everyone has a drink in their hand. It could also be that these three are close friends who are simply drunk and playing around. If these people haven't known each other very long, then my previous comment about respecting yourself and commanding it from others applies.

I agree. My friends and I joke around about this kind of stuff but when it comes to relationships or sexual enconters, i don't know of anyone who has behaved immorally.

I don't think that most men (and women) are like that.

The ones that are in charge of the culture are. Such behavior operates unopposed and as a matter of "boys will be boys" course today. If a majority of people are not like that, then they are certainly a very silent majority, and the people that are are a very vocal minority.

With employers becoming more and more interested in the social lives of their potential candidates, my concern over this sort of image isn't so much the behavior depicted, but that the subject actually chose to publish it on the Internets where anyone can see it. Or in the case of facebook, anyone with a small amount of fiddling. I admit to using facebook, almost exclusively to communicate with others in my law school class. I only have one, professional portrait (to which I bought the rights). I have seen some highly inappropriate and potentially career-damaging (if not ending) images of my classmates on there. If you want to be a lawyer, don't put pictures of yourself doing bong hits and Jell-Oâ„¢ shots off other people's body parts while miming sexual acts with them. It's tacky and unwise. When I first started classes, I was astounded by the extraordinary penetration many (a majority of?) my classmates allowed on facebook. I thought it was an age thing (most of them are 2 years younger than I am), but now I think it's a philosophy thing. I think they've been so indoctrinated with socialist ethics and collectivist epistemology that they cannot function without sharing every minor detail of their lives with other people. Group approval as source of self-esteem. That's what scares me about photos like this.

I saw a PSA once on TV (by the Ad Council, for whom I rarely have the slightest respect) about posting pictures on the Internets. For some reason, I only saw it in Spanish, but I was able to track down the English version on YouTube (for easy viewing) and on the campaign's website (as a QuickTime movie). The PSA is designed to cut down on Internet-related sex crimes, so it doesn't mention the impact posting such things might have on your career. It is ineffectual, because the kids watching this sort of thing want the perverse popularity that comes from posting this sort of thing. But they do make the point that if you put it on the Internets, anyone can see it.

...And people wonder why I post anonymously. Not to compare radical philosophical advocacy to drunken hedonism, but it can be just as damaging as far as many employers are concerned.

An important element is the nihilism. The group approval is approval of how value-less one can depict oneself. It's a form of insisting that one is not good (i.e., not too good for the group). Edited by softwareNerd

This is from the girl who posted the photo, commented on it, and is dating the guy on the left in the picture who is sticking some other girls head in his crotch...

July 14, 2007

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8

It's a "Bible Quote of the Day" on Facebook.

Here's here "Interests"

God, my family, my dogs Lucky and Jackson, church, shopping, concerts, road trips, working out/running, sports, and traveling!

and favorite books...

The BIBLE, The Prayer of Jabez, & True Believer

My point is... I think Christianity PLUS collectivism/nihilism... are whats to blame. It's all about Christianity... it's all about looking cool and trendy to other people and an irrational drive to avoid the moral judgement of other people.

I'm a woman too-- nobody in this picture is respecting him or herself. Why cut the men any slack? "Drunk guys" who act like scumbags make me just as sick as the drunk sluts who dig them. To each his own (and you reap what you sow!) but how any Objectivist could think this passes for a "good time" is beyond me. Where's the fun in getting shit-faced and acting like a monkey?

Bah. Makes me want to be a hermit.

Not me. Its just reason #3256 why I stopped consuming alcohol many years ago. Don't let their foolish pursuits taint your rational pursuits.

With my son heading off to college in less than a month, I'm think that honesty and example setting (on both parents part) will mean he won't be one of the guys in some other picture like this next month, next year, etc.

I agree with you. I certainly didn't mean to imply that I was letting the men off the hook. I just know what my mother taught me when I started dating, so I can speak for the woman's problems. I'm no dude, so I'll let one of them speak for the male behavior.

I hate the guys too. However... I don't focus, or notice them as much because... you know, most of my attention is geared toward the opposite sex when i'm observing people from a far.

If that makes any sense.

The guys are too me, just irrevelant assholes who spoiled something that could of been great at one point.

Ehhh, I guess my problem is that when you met a girl and then you find something like the example pic, it chips away at your hope. I stopped wanting to have kids awhile ago, because if I did, I never wanted to say "Ahhhh... I fell in love with your mother at first sight, when she was sandwitched between one guy dry humping her ass and another pulling her bra down and licking her tit right there in the middle of public where all her friends watched, took pictures and cheered her on!..."

:dough:

If you insist...

...But there are some times when people and their culture go too far and I can’t stomach it. In particular is our culture’s hedonistic, drunken-frat-boy leitmotif, especially as it applies to the obliterating of one’s mind with drink and drugs and its degenerate attitude toward sex. (both hippie attitudes, I will note) I do not take kindly to the celebration of the destruction of what I consider sacred. I can have some tolerance for these things when involved in humor, since they are often a part of its object and if interpreted generously are not as such taking the side of the louts. In other words, I’m laughing at them and not with them.

But make no mistake: despite any such generosity, I am in total and utter contempt of our loathsome frat-boy culture and would be greatly pleased if they would all just dose themselves up thoroughly with their precious intoxicants (as they so love to do), go pass out in the hot sun, and once and for all rid us of their vile, wretched kind.

One isn't supposed to make posts that merely agree with previous posters. I remember there being a rule about that. So in addition to stating my absolute concurrence with Inspector's summary, and lending to it the weight of my own authority on the matter as a "dude," I shall also ask the following question:

Did you write that for this post and put it in a quote box to make it look like you were a "dude ... speak[ing] for the male behavior," or did you take it from something you had previously written? If the latter, I'd very much like to read the rest of it, if there is more, as the initial ellipsis tends to indicate.

Very very true; I'm trying! Mammon: I know what you mean about chipping away at hope...I guess the only thing to do is keep putting yourself in environments where you can meet interesting, thoughtful people who are excited about life and genuinely have something to offer. Anything less is selling yourself short.

Just reading this thread makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one out there who thinks this way.

Indeed you are right. It was a part of this. A summary of the wider context would be that I was talking about how one can often (optionally) glean values from our often terrible culture, but some things go too far. And the wider, wider context was in discussing my view of the general populace, a discussion which links back to previous posts, Myrhaf's blog, Dan Edge's blog, and finally back here again to OO.net.
