President Obama has expanded President Bush’s Faith Based Initiatives, including setting up a White House office. While claiming this doesn’t violate the separation of church and state clause in the Constitution, this coalition will definitely focus on presenting altruism to the American people from the White House.

Obama planned to sign an executive order later in the day creating the White House Office on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. It would expand and refocus the faith-based office founded by former President George W. Bush.

Obama said the organization will not favor any one religious group over another, will work with communities and will act “without blurring the line that our founders wisely drew between church and state.”

He’s basically doing the same thing Bush did, claiming that so long as there are a lot of different religions involved, then the Federal government is not establishing an official government backed religion. :huh:

In a related article on the subject of separation of church and state, Obama said:

“Now, make no mistake, as someone who used to teach constitutional law, I believe deeply in the separation of church and state, but I don’t believe this partnership will endanger that idea – so long as we follow a few basic principles,” Obama said during a campaign speech in Zanesville, Ohio.

I suppose as someone who taught constitutional law, he could find ways to violate principles. :pimp:
